**🍛 Must-Try Local Dishes** Tuticorin's coastal location means fresh seafood is a staple, but don't miss the iconic Tuticorin macaroni, a spicy pasta dish unique to the city. Another local favorite is parotta with salna, a flaky flatbread served with a flavorful gravy, available at almost every street corner. For a taste of the sea, try the fish fry or prawn masala, seasoned with local spices and fried to perfection. **🍽️ Top Restaurants to Visit** For a sit-down meal, head to Hotel Sree Annapoorna at 42, West Car Street, known for its South Indian thali priced around 200 rupees. Another reliable option is Hotel Arya Bhavan on North Car Street, which serves excellent vegetarian meals and is open from 7 AM to 10 PM. If you're craving seafood, try the Tuticorin Pearl City Restaurant near the beach, where a seafood platter costs about 500 rupees. **🌮 Street Food Stalls** The evening street food scene comes alive near the Old Bus Stand, where vendors sell hot bajjis and bondas for 10 to 20 rupees each. Don't miss the sundal carts near the beach, offering a healthy snack of steamed lentils with coconut and spices for just 15 rupees. For a sweet treat, look for the jigarthanda stalls on South Car Street, serving a cold, creamy drink for 30 rupees. **🐟 Seafood Specialties** Being a port city, Tuticorin has some of the freshest seafood in Tamil Nadu. The fish market near the harbor is the best place to sample grilled fish, with a plate costing around 150 rupees. For a more formal setting, the Sea View Restaurant on Beach Road offers a variety of seafood dishes, including crab masala and fried squid, with prices ranging from 250 to 400 rupees per dish. **🍰 Sweet Shops and Desserts** No meal is complete without a visit to one of Tuticorin's sweet shops. The famous Ganesh Sweets on West Car Street sells traditional sweets like laddu and halwa, priced at 20 to 50 rupees per piece. Another must-visit is the Sri Krishna Sweets near the bus stand, known for its melt-in-the-mouth badam halwa, available from 8 AM to 9 PM. **☕ Cafes and Tea Stalls** For a quick pick-me-up, the tea stalls around the Collectorate are legendary, serving strong filter coffee and tea for just 10 rupees. If you prefer a sit-down cafe, try the Cafe Coffee Day on Palayamkottai Road, open from 9 AM to 11 PM, where a cappuccino costs around 100 rupees. The local favorite, however, is the roadside tea kadai near the beach, perfect for watching the sunset with a hot cup. **💰 Budget and Mid-Range Eats** Tuticorin is very affordable for food lovers, with street food meals costing under 100 rupees. Mid-range restaurants like Hotel Sree Annapoorna offer full meals for 200 to 300 rupees, while seafood dinners at places like Pearl City Restaurant can cost around 500 rupees per person. For the best value, try the set meals at local messes, which include rice, sambar, rasam, and a vegetable poriyal for just 80 rupees. **🕒 Best Times to Eat** Most restaurants in Tuticorin open by 7 AM for breakfast and serve lunch from 12 PM to 3 PM. The street food stalls start setting up around 5 PM and stay busy until 10 PM, especially near the beach and bus stands. For dinner, plan to eat by 8 PM as many kitchens close by 10 PM, though a few cafes remain open until 11 PM.
