**🍽️ Must-Try Local Dishes** Belgaum's food scene is rooted in North Karnataka flavors, with a strong influence from neighboring Maharashtra. Start with kunda, a caramel-like milk sweet that originated here, and bhakri, a thick jowar flatbread served with spicy curries. Don't miss the local version of misal pav, a fiery sprouted lentil curry topped with farsan and onions. For a hearty meal, try jolada rotti with enne badanekai, a stuffed brinjal curry cooked in peanut and sesame gravy. **🥘 Iconic Restaurants** For authentic North Karnataka thalis, head to Hotel Sanman at Khanapur Road, Camp, where a full meal costs around 250 to 350 rupees. Another favorite is Hotel Niyaaz at Nehru Chowk, known for its mutton biryani and kebabs, with plates starting at 200 rupees. The Grand Darbar near Rani Chennamma Circle offers a mix of Mughlai and Chinese dishes in a family-friendly setting. For vegetarian fare, Shahu Palace on College Road serves unlimited thalis for about 300 rupees. **🍢 Street Food Stalls** Evening street food comes alive around Khade Bazaar and Ganpat Galli, where vendors sell hot mirchi bhajji and bonda for 20 to 40 rupees. Try the puffed rice bhel at Ramdev Hotel lane, a crunchy mix of chutneys and sev for just 30 rupees. For a sweet finish, look for jalebi and imarti stalls near the old bus stand, fried fresh from 5 PM to 9 PM. Don't overlook the egg puff and samosa carts near KLE Hospital, popular with students. **🍛 Breakfast Spots** Start your day with idli and chutney at Hotel Anmol near Bogar Ves, where a plate costs 40 rupees and opens at 7 AM. For a Maharashtrian touch, try poha and misal at Hotel Anandi on Shahapur Road, serving from 6:30 AM. The iconic Belgaum breakfast is kunda and chai at local bakeries like Pai Bakery on Maruti Galli, open from 8 AM. Many places close by 11 AM, so plan an early start. **🍗 Non-Veg Delights** Belgaum is famous for its spicy chicken and mutton dishes, often cooked with coconut and red chilies. Hotel Rendezvous on Club Road serves a mean chicken ghee roast and neer dosa for around 300 rupees. For biryani, head to Hotel Saffron at Gogte Circle, where a chicken biryani costs 220 rupees and is available from noon to 3 PM. Tandoori nights at Hotel Eefa on Khanapur Road offer kebabs and naan starting at 250 rupees. **🍰 Sweet Shops** No visit is complete without trying kunda from Camp Sweet Mart on Khanapur Road, priced at 400 rupees per kilogram. Other classic sweets include karadant, a dry fruit and jaggery roll, and chiroti, a flaky pastry soaked in ghee. For a modern twist, try the chocolate kunda at Gokak Chiwda and Sweets near Ramling Khind. Most sweet shops open at 9 AM and close by 9 PM. **💰 Budget and Timing** Street food snacks range from 20 to 50 rupees, while a sit-down meal at a mid-range restaurant costs 200 to 400 rupees per person. Fine dining options like Hotel Piccadilly on Nehru Chowk charge 500 to 800 rupees for two. Most restaurants serve lunch from 12:30 PM to 3 PM and dinner from 7 PM to 10:30 PM. Street stalls are busiest from 5 PM to 9 PM, so arrive early for the best picks. **🚌 Getting Around** Belgaum's food hubs are spread across Camp, Shahapur, and Tilakwadi, so use auto-rickshaws for short hops, costing 30 to 50 rupees per ride. City buses run frequently from the central bus stand to areas like Khanapur Road and Nehru Chowk for 10 to 15 rupees. For late-night street food, stick to well-lit areas like Khade Bazaar and avoid isolated lanes after 10 PM. Walking is best in congested markets like Ganpat Galli and Maruti Galli.
