**🗺️ Day 1: Old Town Core** Start at the Rouen Rive Droite train station, then walk 10 minutes to the Gros-Horloge, a 14th-century clock and archway at Rue du Gros-Horloge. Climb the clock tower for a 15-minute audio tour (€8, open 10:00-13:00 and 14:00-19:00, closed Mondays). Continue to the Place du Vieux-Marché, where Joan of Arc was executed in 1431, and visit the modern Church of Saint Joan of Arc. Lunch on Rue Saint-Romain at La Couronne (founded 1345), then explore the Aître Saint-Maclou, a former plague cemetery with macabre carvings, free entry, open 9:00-18:00. **⛪ Day 2: Cathedral and Museums** Begin at Notre-Dame Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece that Monet painted more than 30 times; entry is free, and the tower climb costs €7.50 (open 9:00-19:00 April to September, 9:00-18:00 October to March). Spend two hours inside, then walk 5 minutes to the Museum of Fine Arts (Esplanade Marcel Duchamp, €10, open 10:00-18:00, closed Tuesdays) for its Impressionist collection. After lunch, visit the Ceramics Museum (Rue Faucon, €5, open 14:00-18:00, closed Tuesdays) in a former mansion. End the day with a stroll along the Seine on the right bank, about 20 minutes from the cathedral. **🚶 Day 3: Left Bank and Hills** Cross the Boieldieu Bridge to the Left Bank and walk 15 minutes to the Church of Saint-Maclou, then continue uphill to the Panorama of Rouen on Rue de la Montagne, a free viewpoint with city-wide vistas. Descend to the Jardin des Plantes (Rue de la Plante, free, open 8:00-20:00 in summer) for a relaxing break. In the afternoon, take bus T2 from the station to the Rouen Panorama for a different angle, or visit the Maritime Museum (Quai de Boisguilbert, €6, open 10:00-18:00, closed Tuesdays). Return to the center via the Gustave Flaubert Bridge, a 10-minute walk from the museum. **🚇 Getting Around Rouen** Rouen's historic center is compact and walkable; most sights are within 20 minutes on foot. The metro (two lines) and buses (T1, T2, T3) are useful for longer hops, with a single ticket costing €1.80 and a 24-hour pass €5.40. The Rouen Rive Droite station connects to Paris Saint-Lazare in about 1 hour 15 minutes by train. Taxis are available but not necessary unless you are heading to the outskirts. **🍽️ Where to Eat and Drink** For lunch, try La Petite Auberge (Rue Saint-Romain, around €15 for a plat du jour) or the bustling Halles Martenot food market (Place Saint-Marc, open daily 6:00-19:00, closed Monday afternoons). Dinner options include La Couronne (€30-50 for a full meal) for traditional Norman cuisine, or the more casual Le Bistrot d'Arthur (Rue de la Pie, €20-30). For drinks, head to the Rue des Vergettes or the Place des Carmes, where bars stay open until 1:00 on weekends. A glass of local cider or Calvados is a must. **💶 Budget and Money Tips** Expect to spend around €80-120 per day per person, covering meals, entry fees, and local transport. Many museums offer free entry on the first Sunday of the month, so plan accordingly. Credit cards are widely accepted, but keep €20-30 in cash for small bakeries and market stalls. Tap water is safe to drink, and a picnic from the market can save you €10-15 per meal. **⏰ Timing and Opening Hours** Most museums open at 10:00 and close between 17:00 and 18:00, with many closed on Mondays or Tuesdays. The cathedral is open daily from 9:00 to 19:00 in high season, but the tower climb has limited slots, so arrive early. Shops often close between 12:30 and 14:00 for lunch, and some close on Sundays. Plan major sights for the morning and save walking tours for the afternoon when crowds thin out. **🌧️ Rainy Day Alternatives** If it rains, head to the Museum of Fine Arts or the Ceramics Museum, both of which can easily fill two hours. The Aître Saint-Maclou is partly covered, and the Gros-Horloge tower offers shelter during the climb. For a cozy break, duck into one of the many tea rooms on Rue du Gros-Horloge, such as La Maison Bleue, which serves hot chocolate and pastries until 18:30. The metro is a quick escape if you get caught in a downpour.
