**🍜 Wencheng's Must-Try Dishes** Wencheng is famous for its hearty mountain cuisine, especially the local free-range chicken soup, which is simmered with ginger and rice wine. Another staple is the 'winter bamboo shoots with cured pork,' a savory dish that highlights the region's fresh produce. Don't miss the handmade rice noodles, often served in a rich bone broth, and the sweet osmanthus cake for dessert. **🏮 Where to Start: Old Town** Begin your food journey in the Old Town area around Jiefang Street, where many family-run eateries have operated for decades. For a classic meal, try 'Auntie Li's Kitchen' at 45 Jiefang Street, open from 10:00 to 20:00, where a bowl of chicken soup costs around 25 yuan. Nearby, 'Old Zhang's Noodle House' at 12 Renmin Road serves rice noodles for 15 yuan per bowl, and it's a favorite among locals for breakfast. **🥟 Street Food Stalls** The night market on Binjiang Road comes alive after 18:00, offering skewers, fried dumplings, and stinky tofu for 5 to 10 yuan per portion. Look for 'Sister Wang's Stinky Tofu' cart, a local legend that has been operating for over 15 years. Another must-visit is the 'Mountain Herb Pancake' stall near the bus station, where you can get a freshly made pancake for just 8 yuan. **🍚 Local Rice Noodle Shops** Wencheng's rice noodles are a breakfast staple, and 'Chen's Rice Noodle' at 88 Xinhua Road is a top choice, open from 6:30 to 14:00. A bowl with pork and pickles costs 18 yuan, and you can add a tea egg for 2 yuan. For a spicier version, head to 'Spicy Sister Noodles' at 23 Wenhua Street, where the broth is infused with local chili oil. **🍲 Hearty Dinner Spots** For a sit-down dinner, 'Mountain View Restaurant' at 156 Huan Cheng Road offers a set menu for two at 128 yuan, including chicken soup, bamboo shoots, and a vegetable dish. It's open from 11:00 to 21:00 and gets busy on weekends, so call ahead. Another option is 'Family Feast' at 67 Zhongshan Street, known for its braised pork and wild mushrooms, with mains ranging from 38 to 68 yuan. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts** Wencheng's osmanthus cake is a must-try, and 'Sweet Osmanthus Bakery' at 34 Guihua Lane sells freshly made cakes for 10 yuan per box. They also offer glutinous rice balls with black sesame filling for 12 yuan. For a modern twist, visit 'Mountain Cream' at 89 Binjiang Road, which serves osmanthus-flavored ice cream for 15 yuan per scoop. **💰 Budget and Prices** Street food and small eateries typically cost between 5 and 20 yuan per dish, while a full meal at a mid-range restaurant runs about 50 to 80 yuan per person. A bowl of rice noodles is usually 15 to 20 yuan, and a plate of chicken soup is around 25 to 35 yuan. Keep in mind that most places accept cash and WeChat Pay, but credit cards are rarely accepted. **🚌 Getting Around and Tips** Most food spots are concentrated in the Old Town and along Binjiang Road, which are walkable, but you can also take bus routes 1, 3, or 5 to reach the night market. Taxis start at 8 yuan, and a ride across town rarely exceeds 15 yuan. Many stalls close by 22:00, so plan your evening accordingly, and always check opening hours on holidays as some family-run places may close.
