**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Jinchang's signature dish is hand-pulled beef noodles, known locally as niurou lamian. A steaming bowl costs between 10 and 15 yuan and comes with tender beef, radish slices, and chili oil. Another favorite is roasted lamb skewers, seasoned with cumin and chili powder, sold for about 3 yuan per skewer. For a quick snack, try the fried potato cakes at street stalls, priced at 5 yuan each. **🏮 Top Restaurants** For a sit-down meal, head to Jinchang Old Street Restaurant at 88 Xinhua Road, open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Their signature dish is braised pork with chestnuts, costing around 48 yuan. Another reliable spot is Golden Dragon Noodle House on Jianshe Road, where a bowl of beef noodles is 12 yuan. Both places are popular with locals, so expect a short wait at lunchtime. **🌃 Street Food Stalls** The night market on Renmin Square comes alive after 18:00, offering grilled lamb skewers, fried noodles, and sweet potato cakes. Skewers are 3 to 5 yuan each, and a plate of fried noodles is 8 yuan. Another cluster of stalls operates near the Jinchang Railway Station from 17:00 to 23:00. Bring cash, as some vendors do not accept mobile payments. **🍢 Best Neighborhoods** The Old Town area around Xinhua Road is packed with family-run eateries and bakeries. Here you can find freshly baked flatbreads for 2 yuan and bowls of mutton soup for 15 yuan. For a more modern food scene, visit the New District near the Jinchang Museum, where cafes and fusion restaurants line the streets. Most places open at 11:00 and close by 21:00. **💰 Local Prices** Street food in Jinchang is very affordable, with most snacks costing between 2 and 10 yuan. A full meal at a mid-range restaurant will set you back 30 to 60 yuan per person. High-end dining is limited, but you can find set menus at hotels like the Jinchang Hotel for around 100 yuan. Budget travelers can easily eat well on 50 yuan per day. **🕒 When to Eat** Breakfast is served early, from 6:30 to 9:00, and typically includes congee, steamed buns, and soy milk. Lunch runs from 11:30 to 14:00, while dinner starts around 17:30 and can last until 21:00. The night market is busiest from 19:00 to 22:00, especially on weekends. Many restaurants close for a break between 14:00 and 17:00. **🚌 Getting Around** Jinchang is a compact city, and most food spots are within walking distance of the city center. Taxis are plentiful and cost 6 yuan for the first 3 kilometers. Public buses, such as routes 1 and 5, connect the train station to Renmin Square for 1 yuan. Ride-hailing apps like Didi work well, but availability drops after 22:00. **💡 Insider Tips** Many local eateries do not have English menus, so learning a few Chinese phrases like 'niurou lamian' helps. Tipping is not practiced, and credit cards are rarely accepted outside hotels. If you have dietary restrictions, ask for 'bu yao la' to reduce spiciness. Always check the opening hours during public holidays, as some family-run shops close for several days.
