**🍜 Signature Noodle Houses** Start your food tour at Lao Zhang's Hand-Pulled Noodles (12 Chaohu Main Street), open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM. Their signature beef noodle soup costs 18 RMB and features hand-pulled noodles in a rich, spicy broth. For a lighter option, try the sesame paste noodles at Wang Ji Noodle Bar (45 East Lake Road), a local favorite since 1998. **🥟 Dumpling Delights** Head to Dumpling Alley, a narrow lane off Central Square, where you'll find Xiao Mei Dumpling House (No. 3 Dumpling Alley) serving pork and chive dumplings for 12 RMB per dozen. For a unique twist, sample the shrimp and corn dumplings at Grandma Liu's Stall (corner of Market Street and Lake Road), open only from 5 PM to 8 PM. These spots get busy, so arrive early or be prepared to wait. **🍢 Street Food Stalls** The night market on Riverside Walk (open 6 PM to midnight) is the heart of Chaohucun's street food scene. Try the grilled squid skewers at Stall 7, priced at 10 RMB each, or the spicy tofu at Stall 12 for 8 RMB. For a sweet finish, grab a candied hawthorn stick from the old man at the market's north entrance, a nostalgic treat for 5 RMB. **🍲 Hotpot Experiences** For a communal dining experience, visit Red Lantern Hotpot (88 Lakeview Boulevard), open from 11 AM to 11 PM. Their set menu costs 88 RMB per person and includes a variety of meats, vegetables, and a choice of broth. For a more upscale option, try the private rooms at Dragon Well Hotpot (22 Bamboo Lane), where the signature spicy mushroom broth is a must-try at 128 RMB per person. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts** Satisfy your sweet tooth at Sweet Cottage Bakery (15 Orchard Street), known for its egg tarts at 6 RMB each and red bean cakes at 8 RMB. For traditional desserts, visit Old Town Dessert House (7 Ancient Lane), where the osmanthus jelly and sesame balls are served daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. Don't miss the seasonal mango pomelo sago at Mango Tree Café (3 Riverside Walk), a refreshing treat for 15 RMB. **🍺 Evening Drink Spots** After dinner, unwind at The Tipsy Cat (19 Harbor Road), a cozy bar offering local craft beers from 25 RMB and a selection of tapas. For a rooftop view, head to Skyline Lounge (50 High Tower, 15th floor), open until 1 AM, where cocktails start at 45 RMB. If you prefer a quieter vibe, the tea house at Lotus Garden (2 Lotus Lane) serves traditional Chinese teas until 10 PM. **💰 Budget and Prices** Most street food items cost between 5 and 15 RMB, while a sit-down meal at a mid-range restaurant averages 40 to 60 RMB per person. For a splurge, upscale dining at places like Dragon Well Hotpot can reach 150 RMB per person. Cash is widely accepted, but mobile payments like Alipay and WeChat Pay are preferred at most stalls and restaurants. **📍 Finding the Best Eats** To discover hidden gems, wander the backstreets near the East Lake, where family-run eateries serve authentic home-style dishes. The local food guide app 'Chaohu Eats' provides up-to-date reviews and opening hours, but asking a local resident often leads to the best recommendations. Remember that many small stalls close by 8 PM, so plan your evening accordingly.
