budget tips for ribeirao preto?

Question

heading to ribeirao preto in two months and trying to figure out a daily budget for food, transport, and a few drinks. anyone know what's realistic for a mid-range trip?

svantje · Answer

You can stretch your money further by hitting the lunch buffets on rua visconde de inhapim. Places like brazil grill charge around 30 reais for the kilo and the food is solid. For nightlife, skip the clubs on jose coutinho and grab a beer at a quiosque on the lago, a 600ml skol is like 8 reais and you get the lake view for free. If you're drinking, the pre game at a mercadinho saves you a ton, a 51 with guarana at a bar will set you back 7 reais versus 12 at a club near usp campus.

for a solid mid-range day, i'd budget around 150-200 reais per person. lunch at a good padaria or self-service por quilo place like viena or pão de queijo shops runs you 25-35 reais for a full plate with juice. dinner at a decent boteco on rua américo brasiliense with a couple of chopps will be around 60-80. ubers are cheap, most rides across town are 15-20 reais. skip the overpriced tourist spots and hit the feira noturna on quintino bocaiúva for cheap acarajé and caldo de cana, tastes better and costs half of what you'd pay in the centro

honestly if you stick to the self-service places for lunch and botecos for dinner you can do it on like 120 reais a day easy. also the bus system is super cheap at 5 reais a ride and covers most of the city, so you don't need ubers everywhere. just avoid the fancy restaurants on rua general osorio if you're trying to stretch your cash
