**🍽️ Where to Start** Begin your culinary tour in the medina, where the narrow streets are lined with food stalls and small restaurants. For a classic Tunisian breakfast, head to Café M'Rabet in the heart of the medina, known for its strong coffee and flaky mlewi. You'll find it at 9 Rue des Andalous, open from 7 am to 6 pm, with most items under 5 TND. **🥘 Must-Try Dishes** Don't miss couscous, usually served with lamb or fish on Fridays, and brik, a crispy pastry filled with egg and tuna. For the best brik in town, try Restaurant Dar Belhadj in the medina, where a brik costs around 3 TND. Another local favorite is lablabi, a chickpea soup that's perfect for lunch; sample it at Chez Slah, a tiny spot near Bab El Bahr, for just 2 TND a bowl. **🥐 Street Food Stops** For a quick bite, grab a sandwich from Le Petit Tunis, a popular street food stand on Avenue Habib Bourguiba, serving merguez and grilled chicken for 4 to 6 TND. In the evening, head to the Halfaouine neighborhood, where vendors sell steaming bowls of chickpea soup and grilled corn on the cob. These stalls are busiest after sunset, so go hungry and expect to eat standing up. **🍰 Sweet Treats** Tunisian pastries are a must, and you'll find the best at Pâtisserie Ben Yedder on Avenue de Paris, famous for its baklava and makroudh. A box of assorted pastries costs about 15 TND, perfect for sharing. For a modern twist, visit Café Chéri in the Lafayette district, where they serve a delicious orange blossom cake with your coffee. **🍷 Dinner with a View** For a memorable dinner, book a table at Le Golfe, located on the 18th floor of the Africa Hotel on Avenue Habib Bourguiba. The restaurant offers panoramic views of the city and serves refined Tunisian and Mediterranean dishes, with mains from 40 to 70 TND. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, and the dress code is smart casual. **💵 Price Guide** Eating out in Tunis is generally affordable, but prices vary by area. A street food meal costs between 2 and 6 TND, while a sit-down meal at a mid-range restaurant runs 20 to 40 TND per person. In upscale places like Le Golfe or Dar El Jeld, expect to pay 60 TND or more for a full meal with drinks. Always carry small bills, as many vendors don't have change for large notes. **🚋 Getting Around** To explore the city's food scene, use the TGM train to reach the suburbs of La Marsa and Sidi Bou Said, where you'll find seafood restaurants with terraces overlooking the sea. In the city center, the metro and taxis are convenient; a taxi ride within central Tunis costs about 5 TND. Walking is often the best way to discover hidden eateries, especially in the medina, where cars are not allowed. **🌙 Evening Food Spots** As the sun sets, head to the port area of La Goulette, known for its fish restaurants and lively atmosphere. Try Restaurant Le Pacha, where a grilled fish platter for two costs around 80 TND. For a more casual evening, join locals at the night market in the medina, where you can sample sfenj (fried dough) and sweet mint tea for just a few dinars.
