**⛪ Explore Old Town Treasures** Start at the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, where the 18th-century Murcia Cathedral dominates the skyline. Climb its 90-meter bell tower for panoramic views (entry around 5 euros, open 10:00-18:00). Nearby, the Real Casino de Murcia (Calle Trapería, 18) offers a glimpse into 19th-century aristocratic life with its lavish rooms and library. Don't miss the Glorieta de España, a leafy square perfect for a mid-morning break. **🍽️ Savor Local Tapas Culture** Murcia is the birthplace of the famous 'marinera' tapa, a bite of ensaladilla rusa atop a cracker. Head to Calle de la Merced for classic bars like La Tapa de la Merced, where a caña and tapa cost around 3 euros. For a modern twist, try La Mafia se Sienta a la Mesa (Plaza de San Julián, 3) with creative tapas from 2.50 euros. Most bars are busiest from 13:00-15:00 and 20:00-23:00. **🌳 Stroll Along the River** The Segura River runs through Murcia, and its banks have been transformed into a 7-kilometer greenway perfect for walking or cycling. Rent a bike from Murcia en Bici (Calle Princesa, 3) for about 10 euros per day. Along the way, you'll pass the Malecon gardens and the quirky bridge Puente de los Peligros. In summer, locals flock here at sunset for a refreshing paseo. **🖼️ Discover Art and History** The Museo de Bellas Artes (Calle Obispo Frutos, 12) houses works by Murcian masters like Salzillo and Goya, with free entry on Saturdays after 16:00. For contemporary art, visit the Centro Párraga (Calle Madre Elisea Oliver Molina, s/n), a former barracks turned exhibition space. The Salzillo Museum (Plaza de San Agustín, 3) showcases the famous sculptor's intricate religious figures, open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-17:00. **🍷 Taste Regional Wines** The region of Murcia produces robust reds and sweet whites from Jumilla and Yecla. In the city, La Bodega de la Plaza (Plaza de San Pedro, 3) offers tastings of local wines by the glass from 2.50 euros. For a deeper dive, take a day trip to Bodegas Luzón in Jumilla (about 45 minutes by car) for a tour and tasting (around 15 euros). Many bars also serve the local vermouth, perfect before lunch. **🌿 Relax in Urban Gardens** The Jardín del Malecón, a 19th-century botanical garden, is a peaceful escape with exotic trees and a small pond. It's free to enter and open daily from 8:00 to 22:00. Another favorite is the Jardín de Floridablanca, the oldest public garden in the city, located near the river. Both are ideal spots for a picnic or a quiet read. **🎉 Join Local Festivals** Murcia's calendar is packed with events, from the Semana Santa processions in spring to the Feria de Septiembre with concerts and food stalls. The Bando de la Huerta, held on the Tuesday after Easter, is a colorful parade celebrating local traditions. In 2026, the city will also host the Gran Premio de Murcia, a popular cycling race in early October. Check local listings for exact dates and free activities. **🚌 Navigate Like a Local** Murcia's public transport includes buses and a modern tram line that connects the city center with the university and surrounding neighborhoods. A single bus ticket costs 1.30 euros, or you can buy a 10-ride card for 8 euros. The main bus station is at Calle Bolos, and the tram stops at Plaza Circular. Taxis are readily available, with a typical ride within the center costing around 6 euros.
