**🏙️ Start at the Waterfront** Begin your day at the Butterworth Waterfront, a revitalized promenade along the Prai River. You can stroll the boardwalk, watch ferries cross to Penang Island, and snap photos of the George Town skyline. The area is free to enter and best visited in the morning when the breeze is cool. **🛍️ Shop at the Pasar** Visit the Butterworth Market (Pasar Awam) on Jalan Bagan Luar for a taste of local life. Open daily from 7 am to noon, this wet market sells fresh produce, seafood, and street snacks. Try the local kuih and a cup of kopi at the adjacent food stalls for a true Malaysian breakfast. **🏛️ Explore Heritage Buildings** Take a walk around the old town to see colonial-era buildings like the former Butterworth Railway Station and the historic town hall. The station, built in 1914, is still in use and worth a quick stop for its architecture. Many of these buildings are within a 10-minute walk of each other, so you can explore on foot. **🌳 Relax at the Park** Spend a lazy afternoon at Taman Bagan, a well-maintained park with a lake and jogging tracks. It's a favorite spot for locals to picnic and fly kites, especially on weekends. The park is free to enter and has shaded benches if you just want to read a book. **🍜 Eat Like a Local** Butterworth is famous for its hawker food, especially the char koay teow and pasembur at the Bagan Luar food court. A plate of noodles costs around RM8, and the stalls open from 5 pm to midnight. For dessert, try the cendol at a stall near the market, which is a refreshing blend of coconut milk and palm sugar. **🚢 Take the Ferry** Don't miss the iconic ferry ride to George Town, which departs from the Butterworth terminal every 15 to 30 minutes. The crossing takes about 20 minutes and costs RM1.20 for pedestrians, making it the cheapest way to enjoy sea views. Once on Penang Island, you can explore the UNESCO-listed heritage zone and return later in the evening. **🌅 Catch the Sunset** End your day at the Butterworth Waterfront again, but this time for the sunset. The view of the Penang Bridge and the island's lights is stunning as the sky turns orange. Bring a snack and sit on the steps near the ferry terminal; it's a favorite spot for locals to unwind.
