**🏯 Explore Matsuyama Castle** Matsuyama Castle sits atop Mount Katsuyama and is one of Japan's few original feudal castles. Take the ropeway or chairlift from the base (round trip about 1,040 yen for adults) or hike up in around 20 minutes. Inside, you'll find exhibits of samurai armor and artifacts, and the top floor offers panoramic views of the city and Seto Inland Sea. The castle is open from 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:30), and admission is 520 yen for adults. **♨️ Soak in Dogo Onsen** Dogo Onsen is one of Japan's oldest hot spring resorts, with a history spanning over 3,000 years. The main building, Dogo Onsen Honkan, is a National Important Cultural Property and inspired the bathhouse in Spirited Away. Admission to the Kami no Yu (upper floor) is 420 yen for adults, while the Tama no Yu (lower floor) is 1,600 yen and includes a tour of the private bathing room. The baths are open from 6:00 to 23:00 (last entry 22:30). **🚡 Ride the Ropeway** The Matsuyama Castle Ropeway and Chairlift offers a quick and scenic ascent to the castle. The ropeway runs every 10 minutes from 8:30 to 17:30 (until 18:00 in summer), and the chairlift operates from 8:30 to 17:00. A round-trip ticket costs 1,040 yen for adults, but you can also buy a combined ticket with castle admission for 1,560 yen. The views of Matsuyama city and the Seto Inland Sea are especially beautiful at sunset. **🛁 Visit Tsubaki-no-Yu** Tsubaki-no-Yu is a modern hot spring facility near Dogo Onsen, offering a more relaxed and less crowded bathing experience. It features indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna, and a rest area. Admission is 600 yen for adults, and it's open from 10:00 to 23:00 (last entry 22:30). It's a great alternative if Dogo Onsen Honkan is too busy, and it's just a 5-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station. **🍊 Taste Local Mikan** Ehime Prefecture is Japan's top producer of mikan (mandarin oranges), and Matsuyama is the perfect place to sample them. Visit the Mikan Kobo in Dogo, where you can buy fresh juice, jams, and sweets made from locally grown mikan. For a unique experience, try mikan soft serve ice cream at shops around Dogo Onsen, typically priced around 350 yen. The best season for fresh mikan is from October to December. **🏛️ Discover Botchan Karakuri Clock** The Botchan Karakuri Clock is a whimsical mechanical clock located near Dogo Onsen Station. Every hour from 8:00 to 22:00, it comes to life with animated figures from the novel Botchan by Natsume Soseki. The clock is free to watch and is a fun stop for literature fans. It's especially charming in the evening when the clock is illuminated. **🖼️ See Soseki's Legacy** The Soseki Memorial Museum honors Natsume Soseki, the famous author who lived in Matsuyama and wrote Botchan. Located a 5-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station, the museum displays manuscripts, letters, and personal belongings. Admission is 300 yen for adults, and it's open from 9:00 to 17:00 (closed on Mondays). It's a quiet, insightful stop that adds literary context to your visit. **🚶 Stroll Through Dogo Park** Dogo Park is a pleasant green space surrounding the ruins of Yuzuki Castle, just a short walk from Dogo Onsen. The park is free to enter and open 24 hours, making it a great spot for a morning jog or an evening stroll. In spring, it's a popular cherry blossom viewing spot with around 200 trees. The Yuzuki Castle Museum on-site (admission 200 yen) explains the area's history.
