**🗺️ Day 1: City Center** Start your first day in Pekanbaru's compact city center, where most landmarks are within walking distance. Begin at the iconic An-Nur Grand Mosque (Jalan Hang Tuah), open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, and admire its blend of Malay and Middle Eastern architecture. From there, walk 10 minutes to the Riau Main Library (Jalan Jenderal Sudirman), a striking modern building with a rooftop garden offering panoramic city views. Wrap up the morning at the nearby Pekanbaru City Park (Taman Kota), a green oasis perfect for a quick rest. **🍜 Lunch: Local Flavors** For lunch, head to the bustling Jalan Riau area, known for its street food stalls and casual eateries. Try the legendary Mie Sagu Alu, a local noodle dish made from sago flour, at the famous stall on Jalan Riau (around 15,000 IDR per bowl). Alternatively, sample Nasi Padang at Restoran Sederhana (Jalan Sudirman), where you can pick from a variety of spicy curries and side dishes. Expect to pay between 20,000 and 40,000 IDR for a filling meal with drinks. **🏛️ Afternoon: Museums and Culture** Spend your afternoon exploring Pekanbaru's cultural side. Visit the Riau Museum (Jalan Jenderal Sudirman No. 194), open Tuesday to Sunday from 8 AM to 4 PM, with an entrance fee of only 5,000 IDR. The museum houses traditional Malay artifacts, including royal regalia and ancient manuscripts. A 15-minute drive (or 30-minute walk) away is the Siak Sri Indrapura Palace, but if time is short, stay in the city and visit the Taman Budaya Riau (Jalan Diponegoro), which often hosts traditional dance performances in the late afternoon. **🌆 Evening: Riverside Stroll** As the sun sets, take a leisurely walk along the Siak River promenade, starting at the Jalan Gajah Mada bridge. The riverside comes alive with food vendors and families enjoying the cool breeze. For dinner, try the famous Ikan Bakar (grilled fish) at one of the floating restaurants near the bridge, where a meal costs around 50,000 IDR per person. End your evening with a visit to the Pasar Bawah night market, just a 5-minute walk away, to sample sweet treats like martabak and fried bananas. **🌳 Day 2: Nature and Parks** On your second day, escape the city and explore Pekanbaru's green spaces. Start early with a trip to the Alam Mayang Fishing Park (Jalan Alam Mayang), about 20 minutes by car from the center, where you can rent a paddleboat or fish in the lake. The park is open from 8 AM to 6 PM, with an entrance fee of 10,000 IDR. Next, head to the nearby Riau Main Stadium area, which has a jogging track and playgrounds, perfect for a mid-morning stretch. **🛍️ Shopping and Souvenirs** After lunch, dedicate your afternoon to shopping for local crafts and textiles. Visit the Pekanbaru Handicraft Center (Jalan Soekarno-Hatta), where you can find songket fabrics, woven rattan bags, and batik clothing. Prices start at 50,000 IDR for small items, and bargaining is expected. For a more modern shopping experience, head to the Pekanbaru Mall (Jalan Jenderal Sudirman), which has a wide range of stores and a food court, open from 10 AM to 10 PM. **🍢 Evening: Street Food Tour** Your final evening in Pekanbaru calls for a street food adventure. Start at the Jalan Nangka night market, which opens around 6 PM and offers a dizzying array of grilled skewers, fried tofu, and coconut-based desserts. Don't miss the local specialty, Gulai Ikan Patin (catfish curry), served at the warung on the corner of Jalan Nangka and Jalan Kaharuddin Nasution. For a sweet ending, try the Es Cendol, a shaved ice dessert with green rice flour jelly and palm sugar, available at many stalls for about 10,000 IDR. **🚌 Getting Around** Pekanbaru's public transport consists mainly of minibuses (angkot) and ride-hailing apps like Gojek and Grab, which are the most convenient for tourists. A typical ride within the city costs between 15,000 and 30,000 IDR, and traffic can be heavy during rush hours (7-9 AM and 4-7 PM). For a more local experience, hop on an angkot (fixed route minibus) for a flat fare of 5,000 IDR, but be prepared for crowded conditions and no fixed stops. Renting a motorbike is also an option, with daily rates around 70,000 IDR, but always wear a helmet.
