yeah that other comment pretty much nailed the basics. one thing I'd add is that if you're staying near the Pasar Pagi area there's a losmen or two that go for like 80k a night, nothing fancy but clean and central. for food, the sate padang stalls along Jalan Kaharuddin Nasution are legit and only 10-12k per stick, way better than the touristy spots. also consider renting a motorbike for a couple days, like 50-70k per day from places near the train station, gives u more freedom to check out the durian stalls or the Siak riverbank without waiting for ojol. just watch out for the afternoon rain, it floods some side streets fast

honestly pekanbaru is pretty affordable if u know where to look. for food, skip the mall food courts and hit up the street stalls around Jalan Riau or near Pasar Bawah, a good nasi padang meal with lauk runs you like 15-20k rupiah. transport wise, grab or gojek are cheap, maybe 300k for a week if you're moving around a lot, but the busway (trans metro pekanbaru) is only 4k per ride and covers most of the city. for stays, a decent guesthouse near Sudirman area goes for about 150-200k a night, so total maybe 1.5-2 million rupiah for a week including everything, but bring extra for souvenirs or a trip to the muara takus temple

one thing nobody's mentioned yet is the breakfast culture here. instead of spending on hotel breakfast, walk over to a soto mie stall around Jalan Diponegoro before 9am, you can get a solid bowl for 12k and it's way more filling. also for transport, if you're staying a bit out of the center you can negotiate a daily rate with a ojeg driver near your losmen, i paid 100k for a full day once and he showed me the hidden kerupuk factories near Tengku Bayang. just keep 20k in coins for the mosque parking if you drive yourself, they'll charge you random amounts sometimes
