**🍲 Start with Tinutuan** Tinutuan, also known as bubur manado, is the city's iconic breakfast porridge made from rice, pumpkin, corn, and leafy greens. Head to Warung Tinutuan Sam Ratulangi at Jl. Sam Ratulangi No. 45, open daily from 6 AM to 11 AM, where a bowl costs around IDR 15,000. Pair it with fried fish or sambal for a complete morning meal. **🐟 Grilled Fish at Kalasey** The coastal strip of Kalasey, about 20 minutes south of downtown, is lined with seafood restaurants specializing in grilled fish. Try Restoran Ikan Bakar Kalasey at Jl. Raya Kalasey, open from 10 AM to 10 PM, where a whole grilled ikan cakalang (skipjack tuna) with rice and vegetables costs around IDR 50,000 to 75,000. The fish is grilled over coconut husks for a smoky flavor. **🌶️ Spicy Minahasan Classics** For a taste of bold Minahasan spices, visit Warung Makan Minahasa at Jl. Piere Tendean No. 88, open daily from 10 AM to 9 PM. Dishes like ayam woku (chicken in spicy herb sauce) and rica-rica (meat with chili and lime) are priced between IDR 25,000 and 40,000. The portions are generous, and the sambal is freshly made each day. **🍜 Street Food on Jl. Sam Ratulangi** In the evening, Jl. Sam Ratulangi transforms into a street food hub with vendors selling everything from satay to fried bananas. Look for the nasi kuning (yellow rice) stall near the intersection with Jl. Diponegoro, open from 5 PM to 11 PM, where a plate costs IDR 10,000 to 15,000. Don't miss the pisang goreng (fried bananas) sold for IDR 5,000 per piece. **🍢 Sate and More at Pasar Bersehati** Pasar Bersehati, the main market on Jl. Bersehati, is a great spot for affordable local eats. The sate stall inside the market, open from 7 AM to 5 PM, sells chicken and beef satay at IDR 2,000 per skewer. You can also find fresh seafood and produce to grill yourself if you have access to a kitchen. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Coffee** For a sweet break, try the klappertaart (coconut custard tart) at Holland Bakery on Jl. Sam Ratulangi No. 120, open from 8 AM to 9 PM. A slice costs around IDR 20,000. Pair it with a cup of local Sulawesi coffee at Kedai Kopi Aroma on Jl. Piere Tendean, where a pour-over is about IDR 25,000. **🍽️ Dining in Bahu Mall** Bahu Mall on Jl. Wolter Monginsidi houses several restaurants offering both local and international cuisine. Try the Manado branch of Bakso President at the food court, open from 10 AM to 9 PM, where a bowl of meatball soup costs IDR 20,000. It's a convenient stop if you're shopping or escaping the heat. **💡 Practical Food Tips** Most local warungs are cash-only, so carry small bills in IDR. Tipping is not customary, but rounding up the bill is appreciated. Lunch is typically the main meal, so many restaurants close by 9 PM. For the freshest seafood, go to Kalasey for lunch rather than dinner.
