**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Zhijiang is famous for its hearty and flavorful cuisine, which blends spicy Hunan and sour Guizhou influences. Start with Zhijiang duck, a tender braised dish with ginger and chili, or the sour fish soup made with local river catch. Another favorite is cured meat with garlic shoots, often served in clay pots. These dishes are staples at family-run eateries across town. **🏮 Old Town Food Street** The Old Town Food Street on Renmin Road is the heart of Zhijiang's street food scene, open daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Look for stalls selling rice noodles for 8 to 12 yuan, grilled tofu skewers for 2 yuan each, and sweet rice cakes for 5 yuan. It's busiest at 18:00, so arrive early to snag a plastic stool. Cash is still king here, though some vendors now accept WeChat Pay. **🥟 Breakfast Spots Locals Love** For an authentic start, head to Wang's Rice Noodle Shop at 45 Jiefang Street, open from 6:30 to 10:30. A bowl of beef rice noodles costs 10 yuan, and you can add pickled radish for free. Another gem is Auntie Li's Steamed Buns on Heping Lane, where pork buns go for 3 yuan each. Both places are standing-room only after 8:00, so go early. **🍢 Night Market Eats** When the sun sets, the Night Market on Binjiang Road comes alive from 18:00 to 1:00. Try the stinky tofu for 6 yuan, spicy crayfish for 35 yuan per portion, and grilled squid for 10 yuan. The market is a 10-minute walk from the central bus station, and taxis drop off at the north entrance. Bring small bills, as change can be scarce. **🍚 Sit-Down Restaurants** For a proper meal, visit the Zhijiang Duck Restaurant at 88 Dongfeng Road, where a half duck serves two for 48 yuan. The menu also features stir-fried river snails for 28 yuan and wild vegetable soup for 15 yuan. Open daily from 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 21:00. Reservations are recommended on weekends. **🍵 Tea and Snack Culture** Zhijiang has a strong tea culture, and locals often gather at teahouses like Qingfeng Tea House on Xinhua Street, open from 9:00 to 23:00. A pot of local green tea costs 20 yuan and comes with free refills. Pair it with pumpkin seeds or dried sweet potato chips for 5 to 10 yuan. It's a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. **💰 Budget and Prices** Street food in Zhijiang is very affordable, with most snacks under 15 yuan and full meals ranging from 20 to 50 yuan per person. A typical breakfast costs 8 to 12 yuan, while dinner at a mid-range restaurant runs about 40 yuan. Keep in mind that prices may rise slightly during festivals. Always carry some cash, as smaller stalls may not have card readers. **🚌 Getting Around for Food** Most food areas are within walking distance of the city center, but you can also take local buses for 2 yuan per ride. Bus routes 1, 3, and 5 pass near the Old Town Food Street and Night Market. Taxis start at 6 yuan and are easy to hail, though they can be scarce during peak dinner hours. Renting a bike for 10 yuan per day is another fun option.
