**🏛️ Start at the Old Town** Begin your visit in Xindi's Old Town, where cobblestone lanes wind past restored merchant houses and the 12th-century St. Mary's Church. Climb the bell tower for a panoramic view of the red-tiled rooftops and the river below, and time your visit for the morning market in Market Square, held every Tuesday and Saturday from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Entry to the church is free, but the tower climb costs 4 euros. **🚶 Walk the River Promenade** The River Promenade stretches for 3 kilometers along the Xindi River, connecting the Old Town to the modern harbor district. Rent a bike from the city's bike-share scheme (2 euros per hour) or stroll at your own pace, stopping at the floating gardens and the interactive water fountain near the Glass Bridge. The promenade is especially lovely at sunset, when the lights of the old warehouses reflect on the water. **🎨 Visit the Contemporary Art Museum** Housed in a converted grain silo, the Xindi Contemporary Art Museum (Quay 12, open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM) showcases rotating exhibitions of regional and international artists. The top-floor café offers a great view of the harbor, and admission is 12 euros, with a reduced rate of 8 euros for students. Check the museum's website for late-night openings on the first Thursday of each month. **🍽️ Taste Local Specialties** Don't leave without trying Xindi's signature dish, river trout baked in a salt crust, best enjoyed at the family-run Gasthof zur Mühle (Mill Lane 3, open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM). For a quick bite, the food trucks near the Central Station serve local sausages and potato pancakes for around 5 euros. Wash it all down with a glass of the region's dry white wine, available at most restaurants for 4 euros per glass. **🌳 Explore the Botanical Gardens** The Xindi Botanical Gardens, located just south of the city center, cover 20 hectares and feature a tropical greenhouse, a Japanese rock garden, and a fragrant herb spiral. Admission is 6 euros, and the gardens are open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM in summer, closing at 5:00 PM in winter. Pack a picnic and enjoy the shaded lawns by the ornamental lake, a favorite spot for locals. **🚋 Ride the Heritage Tram** The heritage tram line 7, running from the Old Town to the hilltop district of Oberstadt, has been in service since 1901 and offers a charming way to see the city. A single ride costs 2.50 euros, or you can buy a day pass for 7 euros that covers all public transport. The tram climbs steep streets with views over the rooftops, and the Oberstadt terminus is a great starting point for a walk through the old artisan quarter. **🎭 Catch a Show at the City Theater** The Xindi City Theater (Theaterplatz 1) hosts a mix of plays, opera, and ballet, with performances in German and occasionally English. Tickets range from 15 to 45 euros, and student rush tickets are available at the box office 30 minutes before showtime for 10 euros. The building itself, a neo-baroque gem from 1892, is worth a visit even if you don't attend a performance, as the foyer is open to the public during the day. **🛍️ Shop at the Flea Market** Every Sunday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the riverside parking lot near the Old Town transforms into a bustling flea market where you can find vintage furniture, old postcards, and handmade crafts. Arrive early for the best deals, and don't be afraid to haggle politely. The market is a great place to pick up a unique souvenir, and the adjacent food stalls serve hot mulled wine in winter and fresh lemonade in summer.
