**🏙️ Arrival and First Evening** Most travelers arrive at Beian Railway Station, located at 1 Zhanqian Street, about 2 kilometers from the city center. A taxi to the central hotel district costs around 15 yuan and takes 10 to 15 minutes, depending on traffic. After checking in, head to Central Square for a relaxed first evening. The square is lively until 9 PM, with street food stalls selling local skewers for 5 to 10 yuan each. It's a good way to get oriented and enjoy the city's evening atmosphere. **🏛️ Day 1: Historic Center** Start your first full day at the Beian Museum (open 9 AM to 5 PM, closed Mondays, admission 20 yuan). From there, walk 10 minutes to the Old Town area, where you can explore traditional wooden houses and the historic East Gate. Have lunch at one of the small noodle shops on Ancient Street, where a bowl of beef noodles costs about 12 yuan. In the afternoon, visit the Beian Art Gallery (open 10 AM to 6 PM, free entry) and then stroll along the riverside promenade. Dinner options include the night market near West Bridge, which starts at 6 PM and offers grilled fish and local beer for under 50 yuan per person. **🌳 Day 2: Parks and Temples** Begin the day at Green Lake Park (open 6 AM to 8 PM, free), a 15-minute bus ride (Bus 5 or 12) from the city center. Rent a paddle boat for 30 yuan per hour or simply walk the 3-kilometer loop around the lake. Around 11 AM, take a taxi (about 10 minutes, 10 yuan) to the Temple of Prosperity, a active Buddhist temple with a peaceful courtyard. Lunch nearby at the vegetarian restaurant inside the temple complex, where a set meal costs 25 yuan. In the afternoon, visit the Beian Botanical Garden (open 8 AM to 6 PM, admission 15 yuan) and then return to the city center for dinner at a local hotpot restaurant on Food Street. **🚌 Getting Around Beian** Beian has a reliable bus system with fares of 2 yuan per ride, and you can use a transportation card or exact change. Taxis are plentiful and start at 8 yuan for the first 2 kilometers, then 2 yuan per additional kilometer. For short trips within the city center, walking is often the fastest option, as many attractions are within a 20-minute walk of each other. Ride-hailing apps like Didi are also available and usually cost slightly more than a taxi but are convenient if you don't speak Chinese. Note that traffic can be heavy during rush hours (7:30 to 9 AM and 5 to 7 PM), so plan accordingly. **🍜 Where to Eat** Beian is known for its hearty northeastern Chinese cuisine, and you'll find plenty of affordable options. For breakfast, try the steamed buns and soy milk at any street stall for around 5 yuan. At lunch, head to the Old Town for dumplings or noodle soups, with most dishes costing 10 to 20 yuan. Dinner is best at the night market near West Bridge, where you can sample grilled meats, seafood, and local specialties for 30 to 50 yuan per person. If you prefer a sit-down meal, the restaurants on Food Street offer hotpot and barbecue for about 60 yuan per person. **🏨 Where to Stay** The most convenient area for sightseeing is the city center, near Central Square and the Old Town. Budget hotels start at around 150 yuan per night for a basic double room, while mid-range options with breakfast cost 250 to 400 yuan. For a more local experience, consider a guesthouse in the Old Town, where prices range from 200 to 350 yuan and often include homemade breakfast. If you're arriving by train, there are several hotels within walking distance of the railway station, but the area is less charming. Book ahead during holidays, as rooms fill up quickly. **🌙 Evening Activities** Beian's evenings are lively, especially around Central Square and the riverside. From 7 to 10 PM, the square hosts informal dance groups and street performers, and it's a great spot for people-watching. The night market near West Bridge is the place to go for snacks and local beer, and it stays busy until around 11 PM. For a quieter evening, take a stroll along the illuminated river promenade or catch a movie at the Beian Cinema on Main Street (tickets around 40 yuan). Just remember that most shops and attractions close by 9 or 10 PM, so plan your evening accordingly. **💡 Practical Tips for 2026** Beian is generally safe, but keep an eye on your belongings in crowded markets. The city uses mobile payments (WeChat Pay and Alipay) almost everywhere, so set those up before you arrive if possible. ATMs are available at major banks, but they may not accept foreign cards, so bring some cash as a backup. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the weather is mild, though summer can be rainy. Learn a few basic Chinese phrases like 'ni hao' (hello) and 'xie xie' (thank you) to make interactions smoother.
