Cahill Expy Night Lights?

Question

I drove the Cahill Expy at night last week, heading towards the city. The city lights reflecting off the harbor... wow. Seriously breathtaking. But, I noticed a lot of the signage seemed... dimmer than I expected, especially near the curves. Is that normal, or is there a maintenance issue with the lighting on the Cahill Expy at night? It felt a little sketchier than it should of been.

the bit past the Domain where it dips under the gardens is the worst for that. street lighting there is sodium yellow and pretty low, so your eyes are already struggling with the harbour glare in the background, then the signs vanish into shadow. if you're heading citybound at night just ease off around the Woolloomooloo exit, the sightlines tighten fast and the lane markings get hard to read too.

tbh a lot of it comes down to when you're driving it. around 8-9pm the oncoming headlights from the cross city tunnel exit wash out your view of the signs on the left, so they look dimmer than they actually are. past midnight when traffic thins out they pop fine. if it's really bugging you, log it on the Transport for NSW website, they do actually send crews out for sign visibility complaints more than people think.

cahill signs are reflective only, no backlighting, so at night they rely on ur headlights hitting them at the right angle. through those bends near the domain the angle changes fast & the older signs just dont catch the light. tfnsw did a retroreflective upgrade on parts of it a few yrs back but not the whole run, so some sections are brighter than others. not really a fault, just patchy maintenance

I've noticed that too, especially around the curves heading into the tunnel. I think it's partly because the signs there are older and the reflective coating has worn down, so they don't catch headlights the way they should. Probably worth flagging to Transport for NSW if enough people mention it.
