**🍽️ Traditional Albanian Dishes** Start your culinary journey with tavë kosi, a baked lamb and yogurt casserole that is often considered Albania's national dish. You'll find it at traditional restaurants like Oda, located at Rruga e Currilave 6, where a hearty portion costs around 800 lek (about $8). Another must-try is fërgesë, a rich stew of peppers, tomatoes, and cottage cheese, best enjoyed at Mullixhiu (Rruga Myslym Shyri 17), a farm-to-table spot with mains from 1,200 lek. For a quick bite, byrek, a flaky pastry filled with spinach or meat, is sold at bakeries across the city for just 100-150 lek. **🥙 Street Food and Quick Bites** Tirana's street food scene is booming, especially around the New Bazaar (Pazari i Ri) and the trendy Blloku district. Don't miss the chance to try a sufllaqe, a Greek-style gyro wrap packed with meat, fries, and tzatziki, from street stalls like Sufllaqe Tirana on Rruga e Kavajës, priced at 300-400 lek. For a sit-down street food experience, head to Pazari i Ri, where vendors sell fresh produce and local snacks like grilled corn and roasted chestnuts in season. A favorite among locals is the byrek stand near the Pyramid (Rruga e Dibrës), open from early morning until late, offering spinach and cheese byrek for 100 lek. **🍖 Grill Houses and Meat Lovers** Albanians love their grilled meat, and Tirana has no shortage of excellent grill houses. For succulent kebabs and qoftë (minced meat sausages), try the no-frills Zgara e Tiranes at Rruga e Barrikadave 3, where a mixed grill platter for two costs around 1,500 lek. Another local favorite is the family-run Gurra e Perrishtes (Rruga e Elbasanit 45), known for its roasted lamb and hearty portions, with mains from 900 lek. Vegetarians need not worry: most grill houses also serve grilled vegetables and salads, though the focus is definitely on the meat. **🐟 Seafood and Mediterranean Flavors** Despite being inland, Tirana receives fresh seafood daily from the Adriatic coast, and several restaurants specialize in Mediterranean fish dishes. For a splurge, reserve a table at Fish House (Rruga Ibrahim Rugova 5), where you can enjoy grilled sea bass or seafood risotto for around 2,000-2,500 lek. A more affordable option is the casual Osteria Il Gusto (Rruga e Bogdaneve 12), offering pasta with clams and fried calamari for 800-1,200 lek. Many seafood spots are closed on Sundays, so check hours before you go. **☕ Coffee Culture and Desserts** Tirana's coffee scene is thriving, with stylish cafes on almost every corner, especially in Blloku and near the Lana River. Start your day with a macchiato at the beloved Komiteti Coffee Museum (Rruga e Dibrës 20), where a coffee costs about 150 lek and the decor is a nostalgic trip through Albanian history. For dessert, try the traditional trilece (a three-milk cake) at Ëmbëltore Zgara (Rruga e Kavajës 50) or indulge in gelato at the popular Gelateria La Romana (Rruga e Barrikadave 10), with scoops from 200 lek. Many cafes open at 7 am and stay busy until late evening. **🌿 Vegetarian and Healthy Options** Vegetarians will find plenty of choices in Tirana, from traditional vegetable dishes to modern health-focused cafes. For a fully vegetarian menu, head to Veggie House (Rruga e Bogdaneve 15), where a hearty bowl of quinoa salad or veggie burger costs around 700-900 lek. Another gem is the cozy Çoko & Kafe (Rruga Myslym Shyri 30), offering vegan cakes and plant-based milk for your coffee. Many traditional restaurants also serve dishes like baked peppers with rice or spinach pie, so you won't go hungry. **💰 Budget-Friendly Eats** Eating well in Tirana doesn't have to break the bank, thanks to affordable local eateries and street food. For a filling lunch under 500 lek, try the daily specials at Sofra e Ariut (Rruga e Durrësit 50), where a plate of stew with bread costs about 400 lek. The city's markets, like the New Bazaar, offer fresh produce and cheap eats like byrek and grilled sandwiches for 200-300 lek. Keep an eye out for lunchtime set menus at mid-range restaurants, often priced at 600-800 lek for two courses. **🍷 Wine and Raki Experiences** No Albanian meal is complete without a glass of local raki or wine, and Tirana has several spots to sample them. Visit the stylish Cobo Winery (Rruga e Kavajës 120) for a tasting flight of Albanian wines paired with cheese, starting at 1,500 lek per person. For a more casual vibe, the tiny bar Raki & Co (Rruga e Bogdaneve 8) serves homemade raki from 200 lek per shot, along with traditional snacks. Many restaurants also offer house wine by the carafe for around 500 lek, perfect for sharing.
