**🍽️ Traditional Guyanese Dishes** Ciudad Bolivar, located in the state of Bolivar, Venezuela, offers a mix of indigenous, Spanish, and Caribbean influences. Must-try dishes include the arepa, a cornmeal patty often filled with cheese or meat, and the hallaca, a traditional Christmas tamale wrapped in plantain leaves. Another local favorite is the sancocho, a hearty stew made with chicken, beef, and root vegetables like yuca and ñame. For a true taste of the region, look for street vendors selling empanadas filled with cheese or shredded beef, typically priced between 5,000 and 10,000 bolivars. **🏪 Top Restaurants in Town** For a sit-down meal, head to Restaurante La Casa Vieja at Calle Bolivar, near Plaza Bolivar, which serves grilled meats and fish dishes from 12:00 to 22:00, with main courses around 50,000 to 80,000 bolivars. Another reliable spot is El Fogon de Mi Abuela on Avenida Tachira, known for its hearty soups and stews, open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with prices ranging from 30,000 to 60,000 bolivars. For a quick and affordable lunch, try Comida Criolla on Calle Sucre, where a set menu including soup, rice, and meat costs about 25,000 bolivars. **🌮 Street Food and Snacks** Street food is a big part of daily life in Ciudad Bolivar, especially around the Mercado Municipal on Avenida Republica. Here you'll find vendors selling arepas de chicharron (corn cakes with pork cracklings) for around 8,000 bolivars, and tequeños (cheese sticks) for 5,000 bolivars. In the evenings, the area near the Orinoco River promenade comes alive with carts selling hot dogs, burgers, and shawarmas, usually priced between 10,000 and 20,000 bolivars. Restaurante El Rio on Paseo Orinoco specializes in fresh river fish like bagre (catfish) and cachama, grilled or fried, served with plantains and rice. A meal here costs around 60,000 to 100,000 bolivars, and it's open from 12:00 to 23:00. Most dessert spots are open from 10:00 to 20:00. **🍹 Drinks and Beverages** To beat the heat, try local drinks like papelon con limon (unrefined cane sugar with lime) or jugos naturales (fresh fruit juices) available at most eateries for around 5,000 to 10,000 bolivars. For something stronger, visit Bar El Muelle on Paseo Orinoco, which serves cocktails and beers from 17:00 to midnight, with prices from 15,000 bolivars. A popular non-alcoholic option is malta, a sweet malt beverage, found in supermarkets and kiosks for about 3,000 bolivars. Coffee lovers should head to Cafe Bolivar on Calle Bolivar for a strong taza de cafe, priced at 4,000 bolivars. **💡 Practical Dining Tips** When dining in Ciudad Bolivar, it's wise to carry cash in small denominations, as many street vendors and smaller restaurants do not accept cards. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated, usually around 10% of the bill. Lunch is the main meal of the day, typically served from 12:00 to 15:00, and many restaurants offer a menu del dia (daily set menu) for a good price. Be cautious with street food hygiene; choose stalls with high turnover and avoid raw vegetables if you have a sensitive stomach.
