**🏛️ Capitol and State Museum** Start at the Pennsylvania State Capitol at 501 N 3rd St, a 1906 Beaux-Arts masterpiece with a rotunda inspired by St. Peter's Basilica. Free guided tours run weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and the adjacent State Museum of Pennsylvania (300 North St) charges $7 for adults, free for kids under 12. Insider tip: visit on a weekday morning to catch the legislature in session and avoid school groups. **🚶 Riverfront and City Island** The 3.5-mile Capital Area Greenbelt offers paved paths along the Susquehanna River, perfect for biking or a sunset stroll. City Island, accessible via the Market Street Bridge or the Pride of the Susquehanna riverboat (rides $10-$15), hosts the Harrisburg Senators baseball team at FNB Field; catch a game for about $10. Local secret: the riverfront's southern end near Shipoke has quiet benches with the best skyline views. **🍽️ Local Food Scene** For a taste of Harrisburg, head to the Broad Street Market (1233 N 3rd St), one of the oldest continuously operating markets in the country, open Thursday to Saturday. Try the cheesesteak at Roxy's or the pierogies at Polish Corner; expect to pay $8-$12 per dish. Insider tip: go early on Saturday to snag fresh produce and avoid the lunch rush. **🎨 Arts and Culture** The Susquehanna Art Museum (1401 N 3rd St) showcases rotating contemporary exhibits; admission is $8 for adults, free on Sundays. For live theater, the Gamut Theatre Group (15 N 4th St) offers pay-what-you-will performances of Shakespeare and original works. Check out the free Gallery Walk on the third Friday of each month, when local galleries stay open late. **🌳 Parks and Gardens** Italian Lake in Uptown is a serene spot for a picnic, with a fountain and walking paths; it's free and open dawn to dusk. The 23-acre Wildwood Park (100 Wildwood Way) has trails and a nature center with interactive exhibits, also free. Insider tip: visit in late April for the blooming cherry blossoms around the lake. **🛍️ Shopping and Antiques** The Antique Marketplace of Lemoyne (600 N 12th St, Lemoyne) is a short drive from downtown and houses over 100 dealers; open daily 10 AM to 5 PM. For local crafts, check out the Harrisburg Mall's Saturday farmers market (3501 Paxton St) or the gift shop at the State Museum. Bargain hunters should hit the thrift stores on Market Street in nearby Camp Hill. **🍺 Breweries and Nightlife** Harrisburg's craft beer scene is growing; check out Zeroday Brewing Co. (250 Reily St) for creative taps and a relaxed vibe, with pints around $6. The Millworks (340 Verbeke St) combines a restaurant, bar, and artist studios under one roof, open until 9 PM on weekdays and 10 PM on weekends. Insider tip: happy hour at the Hilton Harrisburg's rooftop bar offers half-price apps from 4 to 6 PM. **🚗 Getting Around** Downtown Harrisburg is walkable, but for attractions like City Island and Italian Lake, use the CAT bus system; a day pass costs $4.50. Ride-sharing is readily available, and parking meters are enforced Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, at $1.50 per hour. Insider tip: the Riverfront parking lot off Front Street is free after 5 PM and on weekends.
