**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Ayutthaya is famous for its river prawns, which are grilled over charcoal and served with a spicy tamarind sauce. Another signature dish is roti sai mai, a sweet cotton candy wrapped in a thin pancake, often sold at the Bang Sai market. For a savory snack, try the deep-fried snakehead fish with garlic and turmeric, a specialty of the region. **🏮 Best Street Food Stalls** The night market along U-Thong Road near the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum is a great spot for street food. Look for stalls selling pad Thai for around 40 to 60 baht and grilled squid for 80 baht. Another popular area is the market in front of Wat Mahathat, where you can find fresh spring rolls and Thai desserts from 5 PM to 9 PM. **🍽️ Top Riverside Restaurants** For a sit-down meal with a view, head to Baan Mai Rim Nam at 15 Moo 4, Tambon Ban Pom, which serves authentic Thai dishes like tom yum goong for about 150 baht. Another favorite is The Wine Ayutthaya at 1/1 Moo 5, Tambon Ban Ko, offering fusion cuisine and local river prawns at 300 to 500 baht per plate. Both places are open daily from 11 AM to 10 PM. **🛕 Eating Near the Ruins** After exploring Wat Chaiwatthanaram, stop by the small food court opposite the entrance, where vendors sell khao mok gai (chicken biryani) for 50 baht. Near Wat Phra Si Sanphet, there are several cafes serving iced Thai tea and light meals from 9 AM to 5 PM. Prices are slightly higher due to the tourist crowd, but the convenience is worth it. **🍧 Sweet Treats and Desserts** Don't miss the traditional Thai desserts at the Ayutthaya Khao Tom Mat shop on Naresuan Road, where a pack of ten costs 30 baht. For something cold, try the coconut ice cream sold at the Ayutthaya Floating Market, open weekends from 9 AM to 6 PM. Another local favorite is the banana fritters at the Bang Ian night market, fried fresh for 20 baht per piece. **☕ Cafes for a Break** The Summer House Cafe at 12/2 Moo 4, Tambon Pratuchai, offers air-conditioned comfort and a range of coffee drinks from 60 to 120 baht. It's open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM and also serves light Western breakfast. Another option is Baan Khao Mao, a rustic cafe near the Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre, known for its Thai-style coffee and homemade cakes. **💰 Budget and Payment Tips** Street food and market stalls typically operate on a cash-only basis, so carry small bills and coins. A full meal at a local restaurant costs between 50 and 150 baht, while riverside dining can range from 200 to 500 baht per person. Credit cards are accepted at larger restaurants, but it's wise to have some cash for smaller vendors. **🚲 Getting Around to Eat** The most convenient way to explore Ayutthaya's food scene is by renting a bicycle for about 50 baht per day from shops near the train station. Alternatively, tuk-tuks can take you between food spots for 100 to 200 baht per trip, depending on distance. Many of the best stalls are clustered around the historical park, so you can easily walk between them.
