**🍳 Start with Breakfast** Begin your day at Jason Bakery on 185 Bree Street, where the croissants and bacon and egg brioche sell out by 10am. Expect to pay around R60 for a pastry and coffee. For a sit-down breakfast, try Clarke's Bar and Dining Room on 133 Bree Street, open from 7:30am, with dishes from R80. Both spots are a short walk from the Cape Town station. **🌮 Street Food Essentials** The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock hosts the Neighbourgoods Market every Saturday from 9am to 2pm, where you can graze on everything from gourmet burgers to biltong. A typical dish costs between R50 and R100. For a quick bite, grab a Gatsby sandwich (a Cape Town classic with chips, meat, and spicy sauce) from any corner deli in Athlone, priced around R50. Don't miss the samosas at the Bo-Kaap Deli on Wale Street, about R15 each. **🍖 Braai and Local Meats** No visit is complete without a braai (barbecue). Head to Mzoli's in Gugulethu, where you pick your meat and they braai it for you, open daily from 11am. Expect to pay around R100 per person for a generous plate. For a more upscale experience, try The Hoghouse Brewing Company in Ndabeni, which serves smoked meats and craft beer, with mains from R120. Both places are popular, so arrive early on weekends. **🍷 Fine Dining and Wine** Cape Town's fine dining scene shines at The Test Kitchen in Woodstock, where the tasting menu costs around R950 per person, and bookings are essential weeks in advance. For a more relaxed wine experience, visit the Cape Winelands, just an hour's drive away, or try the wine bar at Publik on 1 Wale Street, which offers local wines by the glass from R50. Many restaurants offer lunch specials that are better value than dinner. **🌍 Cape Malay Flavors** The Bo-Kaap neighborhood is the heart of Cape Malay cuisine. Book a home-cooking experience with a local family through organizations like Cape Malay Cooking Safari, where you'll learn to make bobotie and koeksisters for around R450 per person. For a quick taste, visit Biesmiellah on 2 Wale Street, open for lunch and dinner, with mains from R90. Their denningvleis (sweet and sour lamb) is a must-try. **💰 Budget Eating Tips** Cape Town offers excellent value if you know where to look. The Eastern Food Bazaar on 96 Longmarket Street serves huge portions of Indian and Middle Eastern food for under R70, open daily from 10am to 10pm. For cheap eats, try the fish and chips at Kalky's in Kalk Bay, where a portion costs around R60, or grab a bunny chow (curry in a hollowed-out loaf) from any takeaway in the city center for about R50. Tap water is safe to drink, so skip bottled water and save money. **🍫 Sweet Treats and Desserts** Satisfy your sweet tooth at Honest Chocolate Cafe on 64 Wale Street, where you can enjoy artisanal chocolate and baked goods, with prices from R40. For ice cream, try The Creamery in Mouille Point, which serves unique flavors like rooibos and honey, around R45 per scoop. Don't leave without trying a koeksister (a syrupy fried doughnut) from any local bakery, usually costing less than R20. **🚶 Food Neighborhoods to Explore** Bree Street is the city's culinary artery, lined with trendy restaurants and cafes from breakfast to late night. For a more local vibe, head to Woodstock, where you'll find everything from food trucks to fine dining, or explore the Bo-Kaap for Cape Malay takeaways. The V&A Waterfront offers a mix of chain and upscale restaurants with waterfront views, but expect higher prices. Use the MyCiTi bus or ride-hailing apps like Uber to get between neighborhoods safely.
