**🍽️ Where to Start** Begin your culinary tour in the city center around Ploshchad Pavshikh Bortsov, where you'll find a mix of Soviet-era canteens and modern cafes. For a classic Russian breakfast, try Stolovaya No. 1 at Ulitsa Sovetskaya 15, open daily from 8 AM to 9 PM, with blini and syrniki for under 300 rubles. It's a local favorite for hearty, inexpensive meals. **🥟 Must-Try Local Dishes** Don't leave without sampling Volgograd's take on pelmeni, often served with a dollop of smetana and fresh dill. Head to Pelmennaya at Prospekt Lenina 28, where a generous portion costs around 250 rubles and is available from 10 AM to 10 PM. Also try the local sturgeon, a Volga River specialty, at restaurants like Rybny Bazar on Naberezhnaya 62, where grilled sturgeon with vegetables runs about 800 rubles. **🥩 Top Restaurants for Dinner** For a memorable dinner, book a table at Restaurant Mama Na Dache, located at Ulitsa Krasnoznamenskaya 7, known for its modern Russian cuisine and cozy courtyard. Mains like beef stroganoff or duck confit range from 600 to 1,200 rubles, and the kitchen is open until 11 PM. Another excellent choice is Cheburechnaya No. 1 on Ulitsa Mira 12, famous for its crispy chebureki, a Crimean Tatar pastry, at just 150 rubles each. **🍕 International Flavors** If you crave something beyond Russian classics, Volgograd has a growing international food scene. For authentic Italian pizza, visit Trattoria Pizzaiolo at Ulitsa Sovetskaya 21, where a margherita costs 450 rubles and the wood-fired oven runs from noon to midnight. For a taste of the Caucasus, try Kafkaz at Prospekt Metallurgov 3, serving shashlik and khachapuri, with mains between 350 and 700 rubles. **🍦 Street Food and Sweets** Stroll along the Volga embankment and grab a quick bite from the many kiosks selling shawarma, corn on the cob, and ice cream. The famous Volgograd ice cream, often sold at stalls near the Mamayev Kurgan memorial, comes in cups or cones for about 100 rubles. For a sit-down dessert, visit Café Pushkin at Ulitsa Pushkinskaya 4, where you can enjoy a slice of honey cake and coffee for 400 rubles. **🍺 Local Brews and Bars** Quench your thirst with a local beer at Volgograd Brewery, located at Ulitsa Raboche-Krestyanskaya 18, offering tours and tastings from 2 PM to 8 PM. A pint of their unfiltered lager costs around 200 rubles, and they serve hearty snacks like sausages and pretzels. For a more casual vibe, head to Beer House on Prospekt Lenina 56, open until 2 AM, with a wide selection of craft beers from 300 rubles. **🛒 Markets and Groceries** Visit the Central Market at Ulitsa Sovetskaya 30 to buy fresh produce, local cheeses, and smoked fish to take home or picnic by the river. The market is open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM, and you can sample pickled vegetables and honey from regional farmers. For a quick grocery run, supermarkets like Magnit and Pyaterochka are everywhere, with reasonable prices for snacks and drinks. **💡 Budget Tips** To save money, eat at business-lunch spots during weekdays, where set menus cost between 300 and 500 rubles, often including soup, a main, and a drink. Many cafes like Coffee House on Ulitsa Mira 8 offer such deals from noon to 4 PM. Also, avoid tourist traps near major monuments; instead, walk a few blocks to find authentic eateries with lower prices and better quality.
