**🏰 Explore the Fortress** The Novokuznetsk Fortress, founded in 1618, is the city's oldest surviving structure and offers panoramic views of the Tom River. Located at Prospekt Kurako, 1, it's open daily from 9:00 to 18:00, with an admission fee of 200 RUB for adults. Don't miss the small museum inside the main tower, which details the fort's role in Siberia's colonization. **🏛️ Dive into Local History** The Novokuznetsk Museum of Local Lore, at Prospekt Metallurgov, 28, houses extensive exhibits on the region's indigenous Shor people and the city's industrial rise. It's open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Mondays, and tickets cost 300 RUB. The museum's highlight is a collection of ancient petroglyphs from the nearby Tom River cliffs. **⛪ Visit the Cathedral** The Transfiguration Cathedral, on Ulitsa Kirova, 3, is a striking example of Russian Orthodox architecture with its golden domes and intricate frescoes. Services are held daily at 8:00 and 17:00, and visitors are welcome outside these times; entry is free, but women should cover their heads. The cathedral's bell tower offers a peaceful spot to reflect amid the city's industrial bustle. **🌳 Relax in Central Park** Gagarin Park, located along Ulitsa Kirova, is the city's main green space, featuring a Ferris wheel, paddleboat rentals on the pond, and numerous cafes. It's open 24 hours, but the attractions operate from 10:00 to 22:00, with rides costing around 150 RUB. In winter, the park transforms into a skating rink and hosts a lively New Year's market. **🎭 Catch a Show** The Novokuznetsk Drama Theater, at Prospekt Metallurgov, 28, stages classic Russian plays and contemporary works in a grand Soviet-era building. Performances are typically at 18:30, with tickets ranging from 500 to 1500 RUB; check the schedule online or at the box office. For something different, the Puppet Theater on Ulitsa Kirova, 5, offers charming shows for all ages on weekends. **🍽️ Taste Siberian Flavors** For hearty Siberian cuisine, head to Restaurant Kolyba, at Prospekt Kurako, 15, where a meal of borscht, pelmeni, and venison costs around 1000 RUB. It's open daily from 12:00 to 23:00, and reservations are recommended on weekends. Another favorite is Cafe Traktir, on Ulitsa Kirova, 10, known for its fresh omul fish and local berry desserts. **🚋 Getting Around Town** Novokuznetsk has an extensive network of trams, buses, and marshrutkas (minibuses) that connect the city's disparate districts. A single ride costs 30 RUB, payable to the driver or conductor, and you can buy a rechargeable transport card at kiosks for convenience. Taxis are also affordable, with apps like Yandex.Taxi offering fares starting at 150 RUB for short trips. **🛍️ Shop for Souvenirs** The city's main shopping street, Prospekt Metallurgov, is lined with stores selling traditional Shor crafts, such as birch bark items and beaded jewelry. For a more authentic experience, visit the weekend market at Ulitsa Kirova, 20, where local artisans sell honey, cedar nuts, and handmade woolens. Prices are negotiable, and most vendors accept cash only, so bring small bills.
