**🏛️ Explore Ancient City Walls** Katsina's ancient city walls, known as Ganuwar Katsina, date back to the 16th century and offer a glimpse into the city's pre-colonial history. The most intact sections can be seen near the Kofar Sauri and Kofar Durbi gates, where you can walk along the remaining ramparts. Local guides are available at the main entrance for a small fee of around 500 naira, and they share stories of the wall's role in protecting the city. Visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. **🕌 Visit the Gobarau Minaret** The Gobarau Minaret is Katsina's most iconic landmark, a 15th-century tower that once served as a watchtower and call to prayer. Located in the old city near the Emir's palace, the minaret is made of mud-brick and stands about 50 feet tall. Entry is free, but donations are welcome for its upkeep. Non-Muslim visitors should dress modestly and avoid prayer times, especially on Fridays. **🏺 Discover Local Crafts** Katsina is famous for its traditional crafts, especially leatherwork and weaving. Head to the Katsina Craft Centre on IBB Way, where you can watch artisans dye leather and weave fabrics using age-old techniques. Prices for small leather goods like wallets start at 1,500 naira, and you can often negotiate. The centre is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm. **🛍️ Shop at Katsina Central Market** For a true taste of local life, spend a morning at Katsina Central Market, a sprawling maze of stalls selling everything from grains and spices to colorful fabrics. The market is busiest on Saturdays, so go early to avoid the crowds. Be sure to try some locally grown groundnuts, a major cash crop in the region. Haggling is expected, so start at about half the quoted price. **🍲 Taste Local Cuisine** Katsina's food scene is rooted in Hausa traditions, with dishes like tuwo shinkafa (rice pudding) and miyan kuka (baobab leaf soup) being staples. For an authentic meal, try the small eateries near the Emir's palace, where a hearty plate costs around 800 naira. Alhaji Restaurant on Kofar Kaura Road is a reliable spot for grilled chicken and jollof rice. Most local restaurants open around 11am and close by 9pm. **🏞️ Relax at Katsina State Park** Katsina State Park, located along Dutsin-Ma Road, offers a green escape from the city bustle. The park has shaded picnic areas, a small lake, and walking trails where you can spot birds and monkeys. Entry is 200 naira per person, and it's open daily from 8am to 6pm. Bring your own snacks and water, as vendors are limited. **📚 Learn at the Museum** The Katsina State Museum, near the Emir's palace, houses a collection of artifacts from the region's history, including ancient pottery, weapons, and traditional attire. It's a small but informative museum, with guides available to explain the exhibits. Entry is 300 naira, and it's open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Photography is allowed for personal use. **🚌 Getting Around Katsina** Katsina is a compact city, and many of the main sights are within walking distance of each other in the old town. For longer trips, take a keke napep (auto-rickshaw), which costs around 200 naira for short journeys within the city. Taxis are also available but agree on the fare before you get in. The roads are generally safe, but avoid traveling at night on unfamiliar routes.
