**🍽️ Where to Start** Begin your culinary tour in the heart of the historic center, where the aroma of cochinita pibil fills the air. For a classic breakfast, head to La Chaya Maya on Calle 62, serving traditional Yucatecan dishes from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Their huevos motuleños and poc chuc are local favorites, with mains ranging from 120 to 250 pesos. **🌮 Street Food Staples** For authentic street tacos, visit the bustling Mercado Lucas de Gálvez on Calle 67, where vendors serve salbutes, panuchos, and cochinita tacos for 15 to 30 pesos each. Try the marquesitas, a crispy rolled crepe filled with Edam cheese and Nutella, from the evening stalls in Parque de Santa Lucía. These sweet and savory snacks are a must-try, especially after 6 PM. **🍤 Seafood Specialties** Head to the coastal town of Progreso, just 30 minutes north of Merida, for the freshest seafood. At Eladio's on Calle 29, you can enjoy a plate of ceviche or fried fish for around 200 pesos. For a more upscale option, try La Playita in the Chicxulub Puerto area, where the coconut shrimp and garlic octopus are standout dishes. **🍮 Sweet Treats** Satisfy your sweet tooth with traditional Yucatecan desserts like dulce de papaya and coconut candies. Visit Dulcería y Sorbetería Colón on Calle 62, a historic shop open since 1907, for their famous sorbets and ice creams. A single scoop costs about 40 pesos, and the tropical fruit flavors, such as mamey and guanabana, are refreshing in the heat. **🍺 Evening Dining Spots** As the sun sets, head to the trendy Santa Ana neighborhood, where rooftop bars and restaurants offer a lively atmosphere. At Apoala on Calle 47, you can sample innovative Oaxacan-Mexican fusion dishes, with mains from 250 to 400 pesos. For a more casual vibe, try the craft beer and tacos at La Negrita, a local favorite on Calle 62. **💰 Budget-Friendly Bites** Eating well in Merida doesn't have to break the bank. For a filling lunch, look for the 'comida corrida' menus at small fondas, which offer a soup, main dish, and drink for 80 to 120 pesos. One reliable spot is Lonchería El Poc Chuc on Calle 55, where the namesake dish is served with pickled onions and tortillas. **🍴 Fine Dining Experiences** For a special occasion, reserve a table at Ku'uk, one of Merida's top fine dining restaurants, located in the Montecristo neighborhood. The tasting menu, which highlights local ingredients with a modern twist, costs around 1,200 pesos per person. Another excellent option is Néctar, in the Santiago district, known for its elegant ambiance and creative Yucatecan cuisine. **🚶 Food Tour Tips** To explore the city's culinary scene efficiently, consider joining a guided food tour, such as those offered by Eat Merida. These tours typically last three to four hours and cost around 600 pesos per person, including tastings at several venues. Alternatively, you can create your own route by starting at the market in the morning, then moving to the parks in the afternoon, and finishing with a rooftop dinner.
