**🥙 Must-Try Tripolitan Dishes** Start your culinary journey with a plate of shakshuka, a simmering mix of tomatoes, peppers, and eggs, often eaten for breakfast. For lunch, try couscous with lamb and vegetables, a Friday staple across the city. In the evening, don't miss grilled fish like sea bream, fresh from the Mediterranean. These dishes form the backbone of Tripoli's food scene and are available at most local eateries. **🏛️ Old City Food Stalls** The narrow alleys of the Old City, near the Marcus Aurelius Arch, are packed with street food stalls. Look for sfinz, a fried doughnut often dipped in honey, sold for around 2 to 5 Libyan dinars. For a savory snack, try brik, a thin pastry filled with egg and tuna, at stalls along Souq al-Mushir. Most stalls open from 8 AM to 2 PM and again from 5 PM to 9 PM. **🍽️ Top Restaurants in Tripoli** For a sit-down meal, head to Al-Saraya Restaurant on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street, known for its mixed grill platters priced between 40 and 70 dinars. Another favorite is Bab Al-Bahr, near the port, which serves fresh seafood and pasta for around 50 to 90 dinars per person. Both places are open daily from noon to 11 PM, but reservations are recommended on weekends. **🌯 Street Food and Snacks** Tripoli's street food scene shines with shawarma and falafel wraps, sold at kiosks in Martyrs' Square for 5 to 10 dinars. Try the falafel at Al-Aseel on Zawiyat Al-Dahmani Street, where a sandwich costs about 4 dinars. For a quick bite, grab a plate of fried liver or kidneys from vendors near the Clock Tower, typically 15 dinars. These stalls operate from late afternoon until midnight. **🍰 Sweet Treats and Desserts** No meal is complete without trying Libyan sweets like maqroud, a date-filled semolina cookie, or ghraiba, a shortbread-like biscuit. Visit Al-Hana Sweets on Al-Jumhuriya Street for a box of assorted pastries at 20 to 30 dinars per kilo. For ice cream, try the gelato at Gelateria Venezia in the Gargaresh neighborhood, with cones starting at 5 dinars. Most sweet shops open from 9 AM to 10 PM. **🍵 Tea and Coffee Culture** Libyans love their tea, often served in small glasses with mint and pine nuts. Head to a traditional cafe like Cafe Al-Nasr on Sharia Al-Nasr for a pot of tea at 3 dinars, open from 7 AM to 11 PM. For coffee, try the Turkish-style qahwa at Cafe Al-Andalus in the Old City, priced at 2 dinars. These spots are perfect for people-watching and relaxing. **💰 Budget and Payment Tips** Street food and casual eateries typically cost 5 to 20 dinars per person, while mid-range restaurants charge 30 to 70 dinars. High-end dining can reach 100 dinars or more. Cash is king in Tripoli, so carry small bills, as many places do not accept cards. ATMs are available but often unreliable, so exchange money at banks or official exchange offices. **🚶 Best Neighborhoods for Food** The Old City is ideal for street food and traditional dishes, while Gargaresh and Hay Al-Andalus offer a mix of local and international cuisine. For a modern vibe, visit the Corniche area, where seafood restaurants line the waterfront. Each neighborhood has its own flavor, so explore on foot to discover hidden gems. Buses and taxis are readily available, with taxi fares starting at 10 dinars.
