**🏛️ Start at Pha That Luang** Begin your visit at the golden stupa of Pha That Luang, the national symbol of Laos. The site is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and entry costs 10,000 kip (about $1). Arrive early to avoid tour groups and to see the monument in the soft morning light. **🛕 Explore Wat Si Saket** Wat Si Saket is the oldest surviving temple in Vientiane, known for its thousands of tiny Buddha images. Located on Lan Xang Road, it opens from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 10,000 kip entrance fee. The cloister walls are lined with over 2,000 ceramic and silver Buddhas, making it a photographer's dream. **🏙️ See the Patuxai Monument** Patuxai, the city's war memorial, resembles the Arc de Triomphe but with Lao motifs. Climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city; the entrance fee is 3,000 kip. Visit in the late afternoon when the light is golden and the crowds are thinner. **🍜 Taste Local Street Food** For an authentic food experience, head to the night market along the Mekong Riverfront. Try khao piak sen (rice noodle soup) or laap (minced meat salad) at stalls that set up around 5:00 PM. A full meal will cost you between 20,000 and 40,000 kip, and the riverside breeze makes it a pleasant spot to linger. **🛶 Take a Sunset Cruise** Several operators offer sunset cruises along the Mekong, usually departing around 5:30 PM from the Chao Anouvong Park area. Prices range from 100,000 to 200,000 kip per person, including a drink and light snacks. Book a day ahead during peak season (November to February) to secure a spot. **🚴 Rent a Bike and Explore** Vientiane is flat and compact, making it ideal for cycling. Rent a bicycle from shops near the city center for about 30,000 kip per day. Ride along the Mekong promenade or through the quiet streets of the old quarter to discover hidden temples and French colonial villas. **🎭 Catch a Traditional Show** The Lao National Culture Hall hosts traditional music and dance performances, often on weekends. Check the schedule at the box office on Thanon Kaysone Phomvihane; tickets are usually 50,000 to 100,000 kip. It's a wonderful way to experience Lao culture beyond the temples. **🛍️ Shop at Morning Market** The Morning Market (Talat Sao) is a sprawling complex selling everything from textiles to electronics. It opens at 7:00 AM and gets busy by 9:00 AM, so go early for the best selection. Bargaining is expected, so start at half the asking price for souvenirs like silk scarves or handmade crafts.
