**🌅 Alms Giving Ritual** Every morning around 5:30 AM, hundreds of monks from the town's temples walk in procession along Sisavangvong Road to collect sticky rice from kneeling locals and visitors. To participate respectfully, buy a basket of rice from vendors for about 20,000 kip and keep a modest distance; avoid flash photography and dress with shoulders and knees covered. The ritual lasts about 45 minutes and is a serene, spiritual start to the day. **🏯 Royal Palace Museum** The former royal residence, now the Royal Palace Museum, sits on Sisavangvong Road and opens daily from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM, with a 30,000 kip entry fee. Inside you'll see the Prabang Buddha, royal regalia, and murals depicting Lao history. Note that bags must be left in lockers, and photography is prohibited inside the throne hall. **⛰️ Mount Phousi Sunset** Climb the 328 steps to the summit of Mount Phousi for panoramic views of the Mekong and Khan rivers, especially magical at sunset. The entrance near the Royal Palace charges 20,000 kip, and it's best to start the ascent around 4:30 PM to secure a good spot. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes, as the stairs can be uneven and crowded. **🛶 Mekong River Cruises** A slow boat cruise on the Mekong is a quintessential Luang Prabang experience, with many operators offering two-hour sunset trips for around 100,000 kip per person. Boats depart from the pier near Wat Xieng Thong, and you can also take a longer journey to the Pak Ou Caves, famous for their thousands of Buddha statues. Book directly at the pier for better rates than through hotels. **🍜 Night Market Eats** The nightly market on Sisavangvong Road (open from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM) is a great place to sample Lao street food like grilled river fish, sai ua (Lao sausage), and khao soi. A hearty bowl of noodles costs around 15,000 to 25,000 kip, and you can enjoy a fresh fruit shake for 10,000 kip. For a sit-down meal, try the alley near the market with family-run restaurants serving laap and sticky rice. **🏞️ Kuang Si Falls Trip** About 30 kilometers south of town, Kuang Si Falls is a stunning multi-tiered waterfall with turquoise pools perfect for swimming. Entry is 20,000 kip, and you can hire a tuk-tuk for around 200,000 kip round-trip, or join a shared minivan for 50,000 kip per person. Go early to avoid crowds, and don't miss the nearby bear sanctuary included in the ticket. **🧘 Temple Hopping** Luang Prabang has over 30 temples, but don't miss Wat Xieng Thong at the end of Sisavangvong Road, with its intricate mosaic walls and low-sweeping roofs. Entry is 20,000 kip, and it's open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Other highlights include Wat Mai, near the night market, and Wat Visoun, which houses a collection of ancient Buddhas. **🚲 Cycling Countryside** Rent a bicycle for about 20,000 to 40,000 kip per day and pedal across the bamboo bridge to the quieter side of the Nam Khan River. Follow dirt paths to villages like Ban Xieng Maen, where you can visit weaving workshops and enjoy a cold drink by the river. The bridge is rebuilt each dry season and charges a small toll of 5,000 kip to cross.
