**🗼 Arrival and Orientation** Start your trip at Machida Station, about 30 minutes from Shinjuku on the Odakyu Line. Pick up a free English map at the tourist information center on the first floor of the station building, open from 9:00 to 19:00. Spend an hour walking the main shopping streets, Machida Moda and Pepe, to get your bearings. For lunch, try a bowl of ramen at Menya Musashi, a local favorite just a 5-minute walk from the station. **🏯 Day 1: Central Machida** Begin at Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts (10:00-17:00, closed Mondays, admission 500 yen), a 15-minute bus ride from the station. Afterward, head to Serigaya Park for a peaceful stroll and a picnic lunch from the nearby Ito-Yokado supermarket. In the afternoon, explore the Machida Squirrel Garden (10:00-16:00, 400 yen), where you can feed friendly squirrels. End the day with dinner at Tofuya Ukai, a traditional tofu restaurant near the station, open until 22:00. **🌳 Day 2: Parks and Nature** Take the Odakyu Line to Tsurukawa Station (10 minutes) and walk 15 minutes to Yakushiike Park, a large park with a pond and small zoo (free entry, 9:30-16:30). Have lunch at the park's cafe or bring a bento. In the afternoon, visit the Machida City Farm (9:00-16:00, free) to see local agriculture and maybe pick seasonal fruit. Return to Machida Station by 18:00 and enjoy dinner at a yakitori stall in the bustling Harmonica Yokocho alley. **🛍️ Day 3: Shopping and Culture** Spend the morning shopping at Machida Tokyu Twins, a large department store connected to the station, open from 10:00. For unique souvenirs, browse the small shops along the Machida River. After lunch, visit the Machida City Museum of History (9:00-17:00, closed Mondays, 300 yen) to learn about the area's past. Wrap up your trip with a relaxing coffee at a local kissaten like Coffee Shop Mame, open until 20:00. **🚆 Getting Around** Machida is well-served by the Odakyu Line and JR Yokohama Line, with frequent trains to central Tokyo. A single ride to Shinjuku costs about 390 yen and takes 30 minutes on the express. For local travel, use the Machida City Bus network; a one-day pass is 600 yen. Taxis are available but pricier, so plan to walk or use buses for short hops. **🍜 Where to Eat** Machida has a diverse food scene, from cheap eats to fine dining. For lunch, try the set meals at Ootoya (around 800 yen) or the fresh sushi at Kura Sushi (conveyor belt, 120 yen per plate). Dinner options include the lively izakayas in Harmonica Yokocho, where a meal with drinks costs about 3,000 yen. Don't miss the local specialty, Machida shoyu ramen, at shops like Ryu. **💴 Budget Tips** Machida is more affordable than central Tokyo, with many free or low-cost attractions. Purchase a prepaid IC card like Suica or Pasmo for convenient transit payments. Look for lunchtime set deals at restaurants, often under 1,000 yen. Convenience stores like 7-Eleven and Lawson offer cheap meals and snacks for around 500 yen. **🌙 Evening Activities** After dark, head to the Machida Station area for entertainment. Catch a movie at Machida Tokyu Twins Cinema (tickets 1,800 yen) or sing karaoke at Big Echo (from 1,000 yen per hour). For a quieter evening, stroll along the Machida River promenade, which is beautifully lit. Many bars and izakayas stay open until midnight, especially around the west exit.
