**🏛️ Explore Arak's Bazaar** Arak's historic bazaar, located in the city center near Imam Khomeini Street, is a labyrinth of covered alleys dating back to the Qajar era. It's the perfect place to wander, shop for local handicrafts like carpets and copperware, and soak up the everyday life of the city. Most shops open around 9 AM and close by 9 PM, though some close for a midday break. Don't miss the spice section for a sensory overload. **🌳 Relax in City Parks** Arak boasts several green spaces, with the largest being the City Park (Park-e Shahr) on Ayatollah Taleghani Street. It's a popular spot for families, especially on Friday evenings, and features a small lake and playground. For a quieter experience, head to the Martyrs' Park (Park-e Shohada) near the university, which has shaded walking paths. Entry is free, and they're open from early morning until late at night. **🕌 Visit Historic Mosques** The Jameh Mosque of Arak, also known as the Atiq Mosque, is a stunning example of Qajar architecture with intricate tile work and a peaceful courtyard. It's located on Jameh Mosque Street in the old part of town. Another must-see is the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid al-Nabi), a modern structure with a striking dome. Both are active places of worship, so dress modestly and avoid visiting during prayer times if you're not praying. **🛍️ Shop for Local Crafts** Arak is famous for its carpets, and you can find high-quality ones at the Carpet Bazaar near the main bazaar. Prices vary widely, but expect to pay from 5 million rials for a small rug. For other souvenirs, visit the Handicrafts Center on Shahid Beheshti Street, where you can buy pottery, textiles, and traditional jewelry. Bargaining is expected, so don't be shy to negotiate. **🍽️ Taste Local Cuisine** Arak's food scene is hearty and traditional. Try the local specialty, 'Dizi' (lamb stew), at Restaurant Shabestan on Imam Khomeini Street, where a meal costs around 1.5 million rials. For a quick bite, head to the food stalls near the bazaar for fresh sangak bread and kebab. Don't leave without sampling 'Araki halva', a sweet treat made with saffron and rose water, available at most pastry shops. **🏞️ Day Trip to Nearby Nature** Just 15 kilometers southwest of Arak lies the scenic Chaharfasl Valley, a popular spot for hiking and picnicking. The area is especially beautiful in spring when wildflowers bloom. You can take a taxi from the city center for about 300,000 rials, or join a local tour. Bring water and snacks, as facilities are limited. **🎭 Experience Cultural Events** Arak hosts several cultural festivals throughout the year, including the annual Pomegranate Festival in October, celebrating the local harvest. Check the Arak Cultural Center on Ayatollah Kashani Street for schedules of theater performances and art exhibitions. Many events are free or have nominal fees, and they offer a great way to interact with locals. The center is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, Saturday to Thursday. **🚌 Getting Around Arak** Arak has a reliable public bus system, with fares starting at 10,000 rials per ride. Taxis are also plentiful and affordable, with short trips within the city costing around 50,000 to 100,000 rials. For a more flexible option, download the Snapp ride-hailing app, which is widely used in Iran. Most attractions are within a 20-minute drive of each other, so you won't need to spend much time commuting.
