**🗺️ Orientation and Transport** Manado stretches along the coast of North Sulawesi, with most traveler highlights clustered in the city center and the nearby highlands. The main airport, Sam Ratulangi International (MDC), sits about 30 minutes from downtown by taxi or ride-hailing app, costing around IDR 100,000 to 150,000. For getting around, use Grab or Gojek for short hops within the city, and consider hiring a car with driver for day trips to Tomohon or Bunaken. Traffic can be heavy during rush hours (7-9 AM and 4-6 PM), so plan transit times accordingly. **🌅 Day 1 Morning: City Center** Start your first day at 8 AM with a visit to the Manado Museum (Museum Negeri Propinsi Sulawesi Utara) on Jl. W.R. Supratman, open from 8 AM to 4 PM (closed Mondays), with a small entry fee. Then walk 10 minutes to the nearby Ban Hin Kiong Temple, a historic Chinese shrine, and explore the surrounding Chinatown area. Grab breakfast at a local warung near the temple, trying bubur manado (rice porridge with vegetables) for about IDR 15,000. **🍽️ Day 1 Afternoon: Culinary Tour** For lunch, head to the famous RM. Tinoor (Jl. Raya Tinoor) for Manado's signature dish, tinutuan (mixed vegetable porridge), served with various sides. Afterward, visit the traditional market at Pasar Bersehati to see local produce and spices. Around 2 PM, take a 20-minute taxi to the Malalayang area to try grilled fish at RM. Dabu-Dabu (Jl. Raya Malalayang), known for its spicy dabu-dabu sauce. **🌄 Day 1 Evening: Sunset Views** End your day with a sunset at the Manado Bay waterfront, near the Manado Town Square (Mantos). The mall has various dining options and opens until 10 PM. For a local experience, try the night market at Jl. Piere Tendean, where you can sample street food like grilled corn and pisang goreng (fried bananas) from 5 PM onward. **🏞️ Day 2: Tomohon Highlands** Depart at 7 AM for Tomohon, a 1-hour drive from Manado (about 25 km). First, visit the Tomohon Traditional Market (Pasar Beriman), famous for its extreme foods like bat and snake, but also fresh fruits and flowers. Then, head to Lake Linow, a volcanic lake with changing colors, about 15 minutes from the market, with an entry fee of IDR 25,000. Have lunch at a restaurant overlooking the lake, then visit the nearby Mount Mahawu for a short hike (30 minutes round trip) with panoramic views. **🌋 Day 2 Afternoon: Volcano and Gardens** After Mount Mahawu, drive 20 minutes to the Tomohon Flower Garden (Taman Bunga Tomohon), a colorful spot for photos. Around 3 PM, visit the nearby Rurukan village for cool mountain air and terraced rice fields. Return to Manado by 5 PM to avoid driving in the dark on winding roads. **🐠 Day 3: Bunaken Island** Start early at 7:30 AM from Manado Harbor (Pelabuhan Manado) for a 45-minute boat ride to Bunaken Island, a world-renowned diving spot. Book a snorkeling or diving trip in advance (around IDR 500,000 to 800,000 including equipment and lunch). Explore the coral reefs and enjoy a beachside lunch. Return to Manado by 3 PM, allowing time to relax before your evening departure. **🛍️ Day 3 Evening: Shopping and Departure** Spend your last evening shopping for souvenirs at Manado Town Square or the nearby Mega Mall, both open until 10 PM. Pick up local specialties like klappertaart (coconut tart) or spicy roa fish. If your flight is late, have dinner at a seafood restaurant like RM. Raja Oci (Jl. Piere Tendean) for fresh grilled fish. Allow 45 minutes to reach the airport from the city center during evening traffic.
