**🏛️ Start at the Museum** Begin your exploration at the Bali Museum (Jl. Mayor Wisnu, open Sat-Thu 8am-4pm, Fri 8am-12:30pm, entry around 20,000 IDR). The three main pavilions showcase Balinese art, history, and artifacts, offering a solid introduction to the island's culture. Don't miss the traditional architecture of the museum buildings themselves, which are worth a photo or two. **🛕 Visit Jagatnatha Temple** Right next to the museum, Pura Jagatnatha is Denpasar's most important Hindu temple, dedicated to the supreme god Sang Hyang Widi. The main shrine is built on a turtle base, symbolizing the foundation of the world. Go during a full moon ceremony (purnama) to see the temple come alive with offerings and processions, but remember to wear a sarong, which you can rent at the entrance. **🛍️ Shop at Badung Market** For a sensory overload, head to Pasar Badung, the city's largest traditional market, located on Jl. Gajah Mada. It's open from early morning to late afternoon, with the best action before 10am when vendors sell fresh produce, spices, and flowers. Upstairs, you'll find textiles and souvenirs at negotiable prices, so practice your bargaining skills. Be prepared for narrow aisles and a lively atmosphere. **🎭 Catch a Cultural Show** Denpasar is a hub for Balinese performing arts, and the Bali Arts Centre (Taman Werdhi Budaya) on Jl. Nusa Indah hosts regular dance and music performances, especially during the Bali Arts Festival (June-July). For a more intimate experience, check the schedule at the Ksirarnawa Building, also within the arts centre, where traditional Legong and Barong dances are staged. Tickets are usually 50,000-100,000 IDR, and shows typically run 1-2 hours. **🌿 Explore Bajra Sandhi Monument** This imposing monument in Renon (Jl. Raya Puputan) commemorates the Balinese struggle for independence. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the city, and explore the dioramas inside that depict Balinese history from prehistoric times to independence. The surrounding park is a popular spot for locals to jog and relax, especially in the late afternoon. Entry is around 10,000 IDR, and it's open daily from 8am to 6pm. **🍽️ Taste Local Flavors** For authentic Balinese food, head to the night market at Kereneng (Jl. Kamboja), which comes alive after sunset with stalls selling babi guling (suckling pig), sate lilit (minced seafood satay), and lawar (spiced vegetable and meat salad). A meal costs around 30,000-50,000 IDR. For a sit-down experience, try Warung Babi Guling Ibu Oka in the city centre, a local institution known for its crispy pork and spicy sambal. **🛵 Getting Around Denpasar** Denpasar is congested, so the best way to get around is by scooter, which you can rent for about 70,000 IDR per day. Ride-hailing apps like Gojek and Grab are also widely available and affordable for short trips. For a more local experience, hop on a bemo (shared minivan) that follows fixed routes, but be prepared for a confusing system if you're not familiar with it. Always negotiate taxi fares in advance if not using the meter. **🌅 Evening Stroll at Sanur** Just 20 minutes east of Denpasar, Sanur Beach offers a relaxing end to your day. Walk along the beachfront promenade as the sun sets, and watch local fishermen return with their catch. Stop at one of the beachside cafes for a fresh coconut or a seafood dinner, with prices ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 IDR. The calm waters make it a great spot for a peaceful evening swim.
