**🍽️ Start with Local Thali** Begin your food journey at Hotel Vishwa, near Sangli Railway Station, where the unlimited Maharashtrian thali (around Rs. 250) includes bhakri, two vegetables, dal, rice, and a sweet. Another reliable spot is Hotel Amantran on College Road, known for its Kolhapuri-style thali (Rs. 300) with fiery mutton or chicken options. Both places serve lunch from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM and dinner from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM. **🥘 Famous for Mutton Dishes** Sangli is famous for its spicy mutton preparations, and Hotel Rajdhani on Station Road is a local institution for mutton sukka (dry mutton) at around Rs. 350 per plate. For a more rustic experience, try the mutton handi at Hotel Sahyadri near Sangli Bus Stand, where a serving for two costs about Rs. 600. Both places are open from 11 AM to 11 PM and get crowded on weekends. **🍛 Street Food Gems** For street food, head to the lanes around Sangli Market (Mandai) in the evening, where you'll find stalls selling misal pav (Rs. 50), vada pav (Rs. 20), and bhel puri (Rs. 40). A standout is Anna's Misal stall near the old bus stand, famous for its spicy tarri (gravy) and crunchy farsan. Most stalls operate from 5 PM to 10 PM, and the area is easily reachable by auto from Sangli Railway Station (about Rs. 50). **🍬 Sweet Treats to Try** No food tour of Sangli is complete without tasting the local jaggery-based sweets. Visit Kaka Halwai on Ganapati Peth for their famous gul poli (Rs. 30 each) and puran poli (Rs. 40), available from 9 AM to 9 PM. Another favorite is Bhavani Sweets near Sangli Railway Station, known for its kaju katli (Rs. 400 per 250g) and motichoor laddoo (Rs. 20 each). **🥗 Vegetarian Delights** Vegetarians are well served at Hotel Green Park on Vishrambag Road, where the paneer tikka masala (Rs. 220) and veg biryani (Rs. 180) are popular. For a quick and affordable meal, try the unlimited Gujarati thali at Shree Thaker Bhojanalay near Sangli Market, priced at Rs. 200 and served from 11 AM to 3 PM and 7 PM to 10 PM. The restaurant is pure vegetarian and also offers Jain options on request. **🌙 Best Evening Spots** As the sun sets, the area around Sangli's famous Ganapati Temple (Ganapati Peth) comes alive with food carts. Try the grilled corn (bhutta) with lime and chili (Rs. 30) or the hot jalebi (Rs. 40 per 100g) from the stall opposite the temple. For a sit-down evening snack, Hotel Midtown on Station Road serves excellent pav bhaji (Rs. 90) and cheese toast (Rs. 70) until 11 PM. **💰 Budget-Friendly Eats** Sangli is very kind to your wallet. A filling meal at a local thali place costs between Rs. 150 and Rs. 300, while street snacks are mostly under Rs. 50. For the cheapest options, head to the student area near Willingdon College, where you'll find plates of poha (Rs. 25) and upma (Rs. 30) served from 7 AM to 11 AM at stalls like Sagar Snacks. **🚌 Getting Around for Food** Most of Sangli's best food spots are clustered around the railway station, market area, and College Road, so you can cover several on foot or with short auto rides (Rs. 30 to Rs. 60). Shared autos (rickshaws) are also available from the station to Vishrambag for about Rs. 20 per person. If you're coming from Miraj, take a local train (10 minutes, Rs. 10) or an auto (Rs. 150) to reach Sangli's food hubs.
