**🏰 Start at the City Palace** Begin your Kota journey at the City Palace, a sprawling complex that blends Rajput and Mughal architecture. The palace houses a museum with miniature paintings, weaponry, and royal memorabilia. It's open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and entry costs around 40 rupees for Indians and 100 rupees for foreigners. **🛶 Boating on Chambal River** For a serene escape, take a boat ride on the Chambal River, especially near the Chambal Garden. You'll spot crocodiles, gharials, and a variety of migratory birds, making it a nature lover's delight. Boats depart from the ghat near the garden, and a 30-minute ride costs about 200 rupees per person. **🏞️ Explore the Seven Wonders** Kota is home to the Seven Wonders, a series of parks and gardens along the Kishore Sagar Lake. Each 'wonder' offers a different theme, from a rose garden to a musical fountain. The most popular is the Chambal Garden, which is free to enter and best visited in the late afternoon when the lights come on. **🛕 Visit Garadia Mahadev Temple** About 30 kilometers from Kota, Garadia Mahadev Temple sits atop a cliff overlooking a dramatic gorge of the Chambal River. The views are breathtaking, especially during sunrise or sunset. You'll need to arrange a taxi or auto-rickshaw for the trip, which typically costs around 1,500 rupees round trip. **📚 Discover the Royal Libraries** Kota's royal heritage includes several private libraries, such as the one at the City Palace, which holds rare Sanskrit and Persian manuscripts. For a more public experience, visit the Government Museum Library, which has a collection of ancient texts and maps. Both are quiet spots to appreciate the city's intellectual history. **🛍️ Shop at the Local Bazaars** Head to the bustling markets of Kota, particularly around the Clock Tower and Jawahar Nagar, for traditional Rajasthani textiles, jewelry, and handicrafts. Don't miss the famous Kota doria sarees, which are lightweight and perfect for the climate. Bargaining is expected, so start at half the quoted price. **🍽️ Taste the Local Flavors** Kota's street food scene is vibrant, with must-tries like dal kachori, pyaaz kachori, and the sweet ghevar. For a sit-down meal, try the vegetarian thali at Laxmi Misthan Bhandar, which costs around 200 rupees. Wash it down with a glass of chaas (buttermilk) from any roadside stall. **🚆 Getting Around Kota** Kota is well-connected by rail, with direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, and Jaipur. Once in the city, auto-rickshaws are the most convenient way to get around, with fares starting at 30 rupees. For day trips to nearby attractions, consider hiring a taxi for the day, which typically costs 2,000 to 3,000 rupees.
