**🍽️ Where to Start** Begin your culinary journey at the iconic Dehati Restaurant on Station Road, known for its authentic Kolhapuri thali. For a quick and delicious introduction, try the Misal Pav at Shahu Udyan Snacks, a local favorite that packs a spicy punch. Both spots are budget-friendly, with meals ranging from 100 to 300 rupees. **🍛 Must-Try Dishes** Kolhapur is famous for its fiery Kolhapuri misal, a spicy curry of sprouted beans topped with farsan and served with bread. Another essential is the Kolhapuri chicken or mutton thali, featuring rich, red gravies made with local spices. Don't miss the chance to taste the city's signature 'tambda rassa' (red curry) and 'pandhara rassa' (white curry), often served at traditional restaurants like Hotel Girija. **🥘 Iconic Restaurants** For a sit-down meal, head to Hotel Girija on Laxmipuri, a legendary spot for Kolhapuri mutton and chicken dishes, with thalis starting at 250 rupees. Another must-visit is Opal Hotel on Tarabai Road, known for its North Indian and local specialties, where a full meal costs around 400 rupees. Both restaurants are popular with locals and visitors alike, so expect a wait during peak hours. **🌯 Street Food Gems** Explore the bustling streets of Mahadwar Road for street food stalls serving piping hot vada pav, bhel puri, and the famous Kolhapuri kanda bhaji. For a sweet treat, try the 'puran poli' from a local vendor near Rankala Lake, a flatbread stuffed with sweet lentil filling. Most street snacks cost between 20 and 60 rupees, making it easy to sample a variety. **🍢 Evening Snack Spots** As the sun sets, visit the food stalls at Rajaram Lake, where you can enjoy grilled corn, spicy chaat, and fresh sugarcane juice. Another popular evening hangout is the area around Shahu Maharaj Park, where vendors sell crispy bhajis and hot tea. These spots are perfect for a casual bite while soaking in the local atmosphere. **🍨 Sweet Endings** For dessert, head to the famous 'Khasbag' area, where you'll find shops selling 'shrikhand' and 'basundi', creamy sweet preparations made from thickened milk. A must-try is the 'matka kulfi' from a stall near the Mahalaxmi Temple, served in clay pots for a rustic touch. Prices for these sweets range from 50 to 150 rupees per serving. **💡 Local Tips** Most restaurants in Kolhapur close by 10:30 PM, so plan your dinner early. Carry cash, as many street vendors and smaller eateries do not accept cards. Be prepared for spicy food; if you have a low tolerance, ask for 'less spicy' or have some curd or buttermilk on hand to cool down.
