**🍛 Iconic Dishes to Try** In Haora, you must start with the classic Bengali thali, featuring rice, dal, fish curry, and seasonal vegetables. For a true local experience, order the kosha mangsho, a slow-cooked mutton curry that is rich and spicy. Street stalls near Howrah Station serve the best puchka, a tangy and spicy filled puri, for around 30 rupees for six pieces. **🍽️ Top Restaurants for Families** For a sit-down meal, head to Bhojohori Manna at 110/1 B.B. Ganguly Street, which serves authentic Bengali dishes in a clean, family-friendly setting. Another excellent choice is 6 Ballygunge Place, located at 6 Ballygunge Place, offering a refined thali for about 400 rupees per person. Both places are popular, so expect a short wait during peak hours. **🥟 Street Food Hotspots** The area around Howrah Station is a street food paradise, especially for rolls and kebabs. Try the famous chicken roll at Kusum Rolls, a small stall near the station's east gate, which costs around 60 rupees. For a sweet treat, visit the vendors near the Howrah Bridge selling phuchka and jhalmuri, a spicy puffed rice snack, for just 20 rupees a plate. **🍰 Sweet Shops Not to Miss** No trip to Haora is complete without sampling Bengali sweets, and the best place is Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick at 8/1 B.B. Ganguly Street. Their sandesh and mishti doi are legendary, with prices starting at 150 rupees per kilogram. For a modern twist, try the nolen gur ice cream at Ganguram's, another iconic shop on the same street. **🍤 Seafood Specialties** Since Haora is close to the river, fresh fish is a staple, and you should try the ilish (hilsa) during the monsoon season. The restaurant Aheli at 5/1A B.B. Ganguly Street serves a fantastic ilish bhapa, steamed in mustard sauce, for around 350 rupees. For a more casual option, visit the fish market near Mullick Ghat and have a local vendor cook your purchase for a small fee. **🍜 Budget Eats Under 100** If you are on a tight budget, the food stalls near the Howrah Bridge offer delicious and filling meals for under 100 rupees. Try the chowmein or fried rice from the Chinese stalls on Netaji Subhas Road, which are popular with locals. For a hearty breakfast, order a plate of luchi and alur dom, a fluffy fried bread with potato curry, for just 40 rupees at any morning stall. **🌙 Late Night Food Options** When hunger strikes after midnight, head to the 24-hour eateries near Howrah Station, such as the famous Mitra Cafe on B.B. Ganguly Street. They serve a mean chicken cutlet and tea at any hour, with prices around 80 rupees. Another option is the night market at Mullick Ghat, where vendors sell hot kebabs and parathas until 2 a.m.
