**🕌 Explore Ajmer Sharif Dargah** The Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is Ajmer's spiritual heart, drawing pilgrims of all faiths. Visit between 5 AM and 9 PM, but avoid Friday evenings when it's packed. Entry is free, though you'll need to cover your head and remove shoes. Inside, look for the massive cauldrons where qawwalis are performed daily. **🏰 Climb Taragarh Fort** Taragarh Fort sits atop a hill about 3 km from the city center, offering panoramic views of Ajmer and the Aravalli hills. The climb takes roughly 45 minutes on foot, or you can hire an auto-rickshaw for around 200 rupees. There's no entry fee, but bring water and wear sturdy shoes. The fort's crumbling walls and old temples give a real sense of history. **🛕 Visit Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra** This ancient mosque, whose name means 'two-and-a-half-day hut,' was built in 1192 and later expanded by the Mughals. It's located just outside the Dargah, near Anasagar Lake. Entry is free, and it's open from sunrise to sunset. The intricate calligraphy and pillars are a photographer's delight. **🌊 Relax at Anasagar Lake** Anasagar Lake is a man-made lake built in the 12th century, perfect for a leisurely evening stroll. You can rent a paddle boat for about 100 rupees per person, or simply sit on the marble steps of the Baradari. The lake is surrounded by gardens and the Daulat Bagh, a great spot for picnics. Visit around sunset for the best views. **🍛 Savor Local Flavors** Ajmer is famous for its street food, especially near the Dargah. Try the kebabs at Hotel Sarovar, or the sweet malpua at Jai Hind Mithai Bhandar. For a full meal, head to Mango Masala on Ashok Marg, where a thali costs around 300 rupees. Don't miss the local specialty, sohan halwa, available at shops like Gopal Sweets. **🛍️ Shop at Naya Bazaar** Naya Bazaar is the go-to market for traditional Rajasthani items like bandhani textiles, silver jewelry, and leather goods. It's located near the Dargah and is open from 10 AM to 9 PM, except Sundays. Bargaining is expected, so start at half the quoted price. Look for the famous Ajmeri pagdi (turban) and embroidered juttis. **🚂 Getting Around Ajmer** The best way to explore Ajmer is by auto-rickshaw or on foot, as many attractions are clustered near the Dargah. A full-day auto-rickshaw hire costs around 800 to 1000 rupees. Cycle rickshaws are cheaper for short hops, about 30 to 50 rupees. Ajmer Junction railway station is well-connected to major cities, and the bus stand is nearby. **📅 Best Time to Visit** The ideal time to visit Ajmer is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant for sightseeing. The Urs festival, held in the Islamic month of Rajab (usually around February or March), is a major event but extremely crowded. Summers can be scorching, with temperatures reaching 45°C, so avoid May and June. Winter mornings are chilly, so pack a light jacket.
