**🗺️ Day 1: Old Town** Start your first day in the heart of Cologne, the Altstadt. Begin at the iconic Cologne Cathedral (Domkloster 4, open daily 6:00-20:00, free entry, tower climb costs 6 euros). From there, stroll to the nearby Roman-Germanic Museum (Roncalliplatz 4, open Tue-Sun 10:00-17:00, admission 9 euros) to see ancient artifacts. In the evening, explore the lively Alter Markt square, where you'll find traditional breweries like Früh am Dom (Am Hof 12) for a local Kölsch beer and hearty cuisine. **🏛️ Day 2: Museums and Rhine** Dedicate your second day to culture along the Rhine. Visit the Museum Ludwig (Heinrich-Böll-Platz, open Tue-Sun 10:00-18:00, admission 11 euros) for modern art, then walk to the nearby Chocolate Museum (Am Schokoladenmuseum 1a, open Tue-Fri 10:00-18:00, Sat-Sun 11:00-19:00, admission 12.50 euros). In the afternoon, take a scenic 1-hour river cruise from the KD pier near the Hohenzollern Bridge (tickets from 15 euros). End your day at the Rheinauhafen district, a modern waterfront area with restaurants and a great view of the Kranhäuser buildings. **🌳 Day 3: Parks and Belgian Quarter** On your last day, escape the crowds in the green spaces of the city. Start at the Stadtgarten park (parking at 50733 Cologne), a peaceful spot with a beer garden, then walk to the nearby Belgian Quarter (between Aachener Straße and Brüsseler Platz) for boutique shopping and street art. For lunch, try the vegan-friendly Café Wahlen (Brüsseler Str. 91, open 9:00-18:00, mains around 12 euros). In the afternoon, visit the trendy Ehrenfeld neighborhood, known for its indie shops and the historic Ehrenfeld bunker, now a cultural venue. **🚋 Getting Around** Cologne's public transport is efficient and well-connected. The KVB operates trams and buses, with a single ticket costing 3.10 euros for a 90-minute ride. For three days, consider a 48-hour or 72-hour ticket (from 17.50 euros) that covers all zones within the city. The city center is compact, so walking is often the best option; for example, from the cathedral to the Chocolate Museum takes about 20 minutes on foot. Taxis are available but can be pricey, so use them sparingly. **🍺 Local Brewery Culture** No visit to Cologne is complete without experiencing the local Kölsch beer culture. Head to traditional breweries like Gaffel am Dom (Bahnhofsvorplatz 1, open daily 10:00-24:00) or Päffgen (Friesenstraße 64-66, open 11:00-24:00) to sample the light, top-fermented beer. Waiters, known as Köbes, will keep refilling your small 0.2-liter glass until you place your coaster on top. Pair your beer with local dishes like Himmel un Ääd (potato mash with apple sauce and blood sausage) for an authentic experience. **💶 Budget Tips** Cologne can be affordable if you plan wisely. Many attractions offer student discounts, so bring your ID. The Cologne Card (from 9 euros for 24 hours) provides free public transport and up to 50% off museum entries. For meals, avoid tourist-trap restaurants near the cathedral; instead, head to the Südstadt or Ehrenfeld for cheaper eats. A typical lunch at a bakery or food stand costs around 8-10 euros, while a sit-down dinner averages 15-20 euros per person. **🌆 Evening Views** For stunning sunset views, climb the Cologne Triangle (Ottoplatz 1, open daily 11:00-22:00, admission 4.50 euros) across the Rhine in Deutz. The observation deck offers a panoramic view of the cathedral and old town. Alternatively, take a stroll along the Rheinpark promenade for a free, romantic perspective. If you prefer a rooftop bar, visit the 25hours Hotel's rooftop terrace (Im Klapperhof 3-5, open until late) for cocktails with a view.
