**🏛️ Start at the Mausoleum** Begin your visit at the Ming Xianling Mausoleum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the final resting place of Emperor Jiajing's parents. The site is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with an entrance fee of 70 RMB. Allow at least two hours to explore the Sacred Way and the underground palace. **🏯 Explore the Old City** Wander through the historic streets around the Drum Tower, where Ming and Qing dynasty architecture lines the narrow lanes. The area is free to explore, and you'll find small teahouses and calligraphy shops tucked between residential courtyards. Stop by the nearby Confucius Temple, open from 9 AM to 5 PM, for a quiet moment of reflection. **🍜 Taste Local Specialties** Sample Zhongxiang's famous pan-fried flatbread, known as 'guokui', at the morning market near Dongmen Bridge; a filling piece costs about 5 RMB. For a sit-down meal, try the savory 'lianzi' (lotus seed) soup at the century-old restaurant Laofangzi, located at 12 Jiefang Street. The restaurant is open from 11 AM to 9 PM, and a full meal for two runs around 80 RMB. **🌳 Hike the Forest Park** Escape the city at the Dahong Mountain Forest Park, a 30-minute drive from downtown, where pine forests and limestone cliffs offer scenic trails. The park is open from 7 AM to 6 PM, with an entrance fee of 50 RMB. The most popular hike leads to the summit of Baoding Peak, rewarding you with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. **🚌 Getting Around** Public buses connect all major sights, with fares starting at 2 RMB, but taxis are cheap and convenient for reaching the mausoleum or forest park. A ride from the train station to the city center costs about 15 RMB. For a more local experience, rent a bicycle from one of the many shared-bike stands near the Drum Tower for 1 RMB per half hour. **🎭 Catch a Folk Performance** In the evenings, the Zhongxiang Grand Theater hosts traditional Chu opera performances, a regional style known for its colorful costumes and lively music. Shows typically start at 7:30 PM, with tickets from 60 to 120 RMB. Check the theater's schedule at 88 Wenfeng Road, as performances are held on weekends and during festivals. **🛍️ Shop for Souvenirs** Head to the pedestrian shopping street on Lantern Lane, where vendors sell hand-painted paper umbrellas and embroidered silk pouches, both local crafts. Prices are negotiable, but a quality umbrella costs around 40 RMB. For edible gifts, pick up a box of 'longpao' tea from the century-old tea house at the corner of the lane, open from 9 AM to 8 PM. **🌙 Evening Riverside Walk** As dusk falls, stroll along the Mo River embankment, where lanterns reflect on the water and locals practice tai chi in the parks. The promenade is free and stretches for about two kilometers, connecting the old town to the new district. For a nightcap, the rooftop bar at the Zhongxiang International Hotel offers a panoramic view of the city lights.
