**🏞️ Start at Siming Lake** Begin your Yuyao trip at Siming Lake, a serene reservoir surrounded by tea terraces and bamboo forests. Rent a bike or take a leisurely walk along the 20-kilometer lakeside path, where you'll find several scenic viewpoints. Entry is free, and the best light is early morning or late afternoon. To reach it, take bus 101 from Yuyao's city center to the Siming Lake stop, about 40 minutes. **🏛️ Explore Hemudu Ruins** The Hemudu Archaeological Site, located about 25 kilometers north of the city, is a must-visit for history buffs. This 7,000-year-old Neolithic settlement features reconstructed stilt houses and a museum displaying ancient rice, pottery, and bone tools. Admission is 30 yuan, and the site is open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Take bus 515 from Yuyao's North Bus Station to get there. **🏘️ Wander Old Town Streets** Yuyao's old town, centered around Tongji Bridge, offers a glimpse into its canal-side past. Stroll along the narrow lanes lined with Ming and Qing dynasty buildings, many now housing teahouses and craft shops. Don't miss the Wang Shouren故居, the former residence of the famous philosopher, which is free to enter. The area is best explored on foot, and you can easily spend a couple of hours getting lost here. **🍵 Sip Local Tea** Yuyao is famous for its high-mountain green tea, particularly the Siming Lake tea grown on nearby slopes. Visit the Siming Lake Tea Plantation, where you can join a guided tour that includes a tasting session for 50 yuan. The plantation's teahouse offers stunning views over the terraced fields, and you can buy fresh leaves to take home. To get there, take a taxi from the lake's visitor center, about 15 minutes. **🚶 Hike the Longquan Mountain** For a bit of exercise, hike up Longquan Mountain, which rises just east of the city center. The trail is well-marked and takes about an hour to reach the summit, where you'll find the Longquan Temple and panoramic views of Yuyao. The temple is active, so be respectful of worshippers. Entry to the mountain is free, and the trailhead is a 10-minute walk from the Longquan Temple bus stop. **🛶 Boat on the Yuyao River** In the evening, take a traditional wooden boat ride along the Yuyao River, which winds through the old town. Boats depart from the dock near Tongji Bridge every 30 minutes from 6 PM to 9 PM, and a 40-minute ride costs 60 yuan. As you glide under ancient stone bridges, you'll see the city's lights reflecting on the water. It's a peaceful way to end a day of sightseeing. **🍜 Taste Local Snacks** Yuyao's street food scene is a highlight, especially around the night market on Nanmen Street. Try the famous yuyao rice cake, a chewy delicacy often stir-fried with vegetables, and the savory stinky tofu from a stall near the market entrance. Prices are low, with most snacks costing between 5 and 15 yuan. The market is busiest from 6 PM to 10 PM, so go hungry. **🚌 Getting Around** Yuyao's public bus system is efficient and cheap, with most fares at 2 yuan. For outlying sights like Hemudu and Siming Lake, you'll need to transfer at the North or South Bus Station. Taxis are affordable, with a typical city ride costing around 10 yuan, but make sure the meter is running. Renting a bike is also a great option for exploring the flat city center, and you'll find shared bikes at many intersections.
