**🗺️ Day 1: Old Town** Start your first day in the heart of Xigaze, the old town area around Tashilhunpo Monastery. Begin at the monastery gate (open 9:00-12:00 and 15:00-17:00, entrance 80 CNY) and spend the morning exploring its grand halls and the giant statue of Maitreya. After lunch at a local noodle shop on Jiefang Road, walk to the nearby Samdruptse Market for souvenirs and local snacks. End the day with a stroll along the Barkhor-style kora path around the monastery, where you'll see pilgrims spinning prayer wheels. **🏛️ Day 2: Monasteries** On day two, head west to the Sakya Monastery complex, about a 2-hour drive from Xigaze (hire a car or join a minibus from the long-distance bus station, roughly 150 CNY round trip). The monastery is split into the southern and northern sections; visit the southern one, which houses a vast library of Buddhist texts and stunning murals. Return to Xigaze in the afternoon and visit the small but charming Xigaze Zong Fort, which offers panoramic views of the city. If time permits, catch the evening prayer session at Tashilhunpo, which is free and open to visitors after 17:00. **🏞️ Day 3: Nature and Views** Spend your final day exploring the natural beauty around Xigaze. Drive about 1.5 hours to the shores of Yamdrok Lake, a stunning turquoise body of water surrounded by snow-capped peaks; the drive itself offers incredible photo stops. Alternatively, if you prefer a shorter trip, visit the Nianchu River valley just south of the city, where you can walk along the riverbanks and see local farmers at work. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a Tibetan restaurant on Zhufeng Road, such as the popular Lhasa Kitchen, which serves hearty momos and butter tea. **🚌 Getting Around** Xigaze is compact, and the old town is walkable, but for outlying sites you'll need a vehicle. Taxis within the city cost about 10 CNY, but agree on the fare before you get in, as meters are rare. For day trips, hire a private car with a driver through your hotel or a local travel agency; expect to pay 500-800 CNY per day depending on distance. Public buses are limited, so they're not recommended for sightseeing. **🍜 Where to Eat** For authentic Tibetan food, try the family-run Tsampa House on Jiefang Road, where a plate of yak meat with tsampa costs about 30 CNY. Another good option is the Tashilhunpo Restaurant near the monastery, which offers a fixed menu of local dishes for 50 CNY per person. Don't miss trying sweet tea at a local teahouse, like the one on the corner of Zhufeng and Jiefang, where a pot costs only 10 CNY. **🛏️ Where to Stay** For convenience, stay near the old town, such as the Xigaze Hotel (address: 18 Zhufeng Road), which offers clean doubles for around 300 CNY per night. A budget alternative is the Tashi Choeta Guesthouse, a 10-minute walk from the monastery, with dorm beds for 60 CNY and private rooms for 150 CNY. Book ahead in peak season (May to October), as rooms fill quickly. **💡 Practical Tips** Xigaze sits at 3,800 meters, so take it easy on day one to avoid altitude sickness; drink plenty of water and avoid heavy meals. Carry cash, as many small shops and eateries don't accept cards or mobile payments. Also, remember that foreigners need a Tibet Travel Permit to visit Xigaze, which you must arrange through a tour agency in advance, and you'll need to travel with a guide or organized tour.
