**🏞️ Explore Wuhai Lake** Wuhai Lake, formed by a Yellow River dam, is the city's centerpiece and a great spot for a leisurely stroll or bike ride. The lakefront promenade stretches for several kilometers, with rental bikes available near the main entrance for about 20 yuan per hour. In the evening, the musical fountain show at 8 PM draws crowds, so arrive early to snag a good viewing spot. **🏜️ Discover Desert Landscapes** The nearby Ulan Buh Desert offers a taste of the Gobi without venturing too far. Head to the Desert Sculpture Park, about 30 minutes by taxi from downtown, where sand dunes meet contemporary art installations. Camel rides and sandboarding are available for around 50 yuan, and the sunset views are spectacular. **🖼️ Visit Wuhai Museum** Wuhai Museum, located at 2 Shifu Road, provides a deep dive into the region's history, from ancient rock art to modern coal mining. Entry is free, and it's open from 9 AM to 5 PM, closed on Mondays. Don't miss the exhibit on the Ordos culture, which showcases bronze artifacts over 2,000 years old. **⛰️ Hike Gan德尔山** Gan德尔山 (Gandel Mountain) offers well-marked trails that wind through rugged terrain and past ancient rock carvings. The hike to the summit takes about two hours and rewards you with panoramic views of the city and the Yellow River. Bring plenty of water, as there are no shops along the trail. **🍜 Taste Local Cuisine** Wuhai's food scene is a mix of Mongolian and Han flavors, with lamb dishes taking center stage. Try the hand-pulled noodles at Lao Wang Noodle House on Xinhua Street, where a hearty bowl costs around 15 yuan. For a unique experience, visit the night market on Renmin Road, open from 6 PM to midnight, and sample grilled lamb skewers and fermented milk. **🚌 Getting Around Town** Wuhai has a reliable public bus system with fares at 1 yuan per ride, but taxis are cheap and convenient, starting at 6 yuan. The city is split into three districts, so allow extra time for travel between them. Ride-hailing apps like Didi work well, but have your destination written in Chinese to show drivers. **🎭 Experience Local Culture** The Wuhai Grand Theater hosts performances ranging from Mongolian folk music to modern dance, with tickets starting at 50 yuan. Check the schedule at the box office on Binhe Road, open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. In July, the annual Wuhai Lake Cultural Festival features traditional wrestling and horse racing. **🛍️ Shop for Souvenirs** For authentic Mongolian goods like cashmere scarves and leather crafts, head to the Wuhai Shopping Center on Haibowan District's main street. Prices are fixed, but you can find better deals at the Sunday market near the train station. Local specialties include wolfberry products and camel milk powder, perfect for gifts.
