**🏔️ Explore Yabuli Ski Resort** Yabuli Ski Resort, about 100 kilometers southeast of Shangzhi city center, is one of China's largest and most famous ski destinations. It offers over 20 trails for all levels, with equipment rentals starting at around 200 RMB per day. The resort is open from late November to early April, and the best time to visit is January when the snow is thickest. To get there, take a bus from Shangzhi Railway Station, which costs about 30 RMB and takes roughly two hours. **🌲 Hike Mao'er Mountain** Mao'er Mountain, the highest peak in Heilongjiang Province at 1,690 meters, is a must-visit for nature lovers. The hiking trail starts from the base near Shangzhi's Mao'er Mountain Scenic Area, and the round trip takes about five to six hours. Entrance fees are around 50 RMB, and the best months to hike are from June to September when the weather is mild. Bring sturdy shoes and water, as facilities along the trail are limited. **🏛️ Discover Local History** The Shangzhi Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall, located at 1 Beihuan Road, commemorates the region's role in the resistance against Japanese occupation. Exhibits include photographs, weapons, and personal artifacts from the 1930s and 1940s. Admission is free, and it's open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, closed on Mondays. It's a sobering but important stop to understand the area's past. **🍜 Taste Northeastern Cuisine** Shangzhi's food scene is all about hearty northeastern flavors. Try guo bao rou (sweet and sour pork) at Lao Dong Bei Restaurant on Central Street, where a generous portion costs about 40 RMB. For a local specialty, head to the night market near the train station for grilled corn and Russian-style sausages, typically 10 to 20 RMB each. Most restaurants open around 10:00 AM and close by 9:00 PM. **🎿 Enjoy Winter Activities** Beyond skiing, Shangzhi offers snowmobiling, ice fishing, and snowshoeing at various spots around Yabuli. The Yabuli Snow Park has a snow tubing area that's fun for families, with tickets around 80 RMB per hour. Ice fishing on the nearby Mudan River is popular from December to February; local guides charge about 150 RMB for a half-day trip. Dress in layers, as temperatures can drop to -25°C in January. **🚂 Ride the Forest Train** The Shangzhi Forest Railway is a heritage narrow-gauge train that once hauled timber. Today, it offers scenic rides through the Lesser Khingan Mountains, departing from Shangzhi Station at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Tickets cost 60 RMB for adults and 30 RMB for children, and the journey takes about two hours. It's a relaxing way to see the countryside and learn about the region's logging history. **🛍️ Shop for Local Crafts** The Shangzhi Handicraft Market on Xinhua Street is the place to find souvenirs like birch bark boxes, deer antler carvings, and hand-knitted woolens. Prices range from 20 RMB for small items to several hundred for larger pieces. The market is open daily from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and bargaining is expected. It's busiest on weekends, so go on a weekday for a more relaxed experience. **♨️ Relax at Hot Springs** After a day of outdoor activities, unwind at the Yabuli Hot Spring Resort, about 15 minutes from the ski slopes. The natural hot springs are rich in minerals and are particularly soothing in winter. Day passes start at 180 RMB, which includes access to indoor and outdoor pools. It's open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and booking in advance is recommended during peak season.
