**🍜 Signature Dishes** Miluo is famous for its spicy river snails and stinky tofu, both of which you'll find at dedicated stalls throughout Chengguanzhen. The local twist on rice noodles, called Miluo mi fen, is a must-try breakfast, often served with a rich beef broth. For a true taste of the region, order the braised fish head with pickled chilies, a dish that showcases the area's love for bold flavors. **🏪 Top Restaurants** For a sit-down meal, head to Laoyuan Restaurant on Renmin Road, where the menu highlights local classics like steamed fish and stir-fried river shrimp. Another favorite is Xiangjiang Flavor House near the Miluo River, known for its generous portions and reasonable prices, with most mains between 30 and 60 RMB. Both places get busy at noon, so arrive before 12:30 to avoid a wait. **🥢 Street Food Stalls** The evening street food market along Jiefang Road comes alive after 6 PM, offering grilled skewers, fried dumplings, and the famous stinky tofu. Look for the stall with a long queue near the intersection with Zhongshan Road; that's Auntie Chen's, where a small bowl of stinky tofu costs just 8 RMB. For a sweet treat, try the sugar-fried chestnuts sold from a cart at the east end of the market. **🏘️ Neighborhood Gems** Wander into the old residential lanes off Bayi Road to find family-run eateries that rarely appear in guidebooks. One such spot, Sister Wang's Kitchen, serves a hearty pork rib soup with lotus root for only 15 RMB a bowl. These hidden gems often close by 8 PM, so plan to visit during lunch or early dinner. **💰 Budget and Prices** A filling street food meal will cost between 10 and 20 RMB, while a casual restaurant meal for two runs about 60 to 100 RMB. Mid-range places like the ones mentioned above charge around 50 RMB per person for a multi-dish feast. Carry small bills, as many stalls and small shops do not accept mobile payments. **🚌 Getting Around** Chengguanzhen is compact, so walking is the best way to discover food spots, especially in the old town. Public buses cost 2 RMB and connect the main squares, but they can be crowded during rush hours. Taxis are affordable, with most rides within the town under 15 RMB, and ride-hailing apps like Didi are widely used. **🌙 Evening Food Scene** As night falls, the riverside promenade near the Miluo River fills with vendors selling grilled fish and cold beer. The night market on Jiefang Road is the liveliest, with open-air seating and live music on weekends. For a quieter evening, try the tea houses along the river, which serve light snacks like sunflower seeds and pickled vegetables.
