**🏯 Explore Ancient Walled City** Luocheng's ancient walled city, known locally as Chuanzhu Ancient Town, is a well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty settlement with stone-paved streets and traditional wooden houses. The main gate opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 6:00 PM, with free entry to the town itself. Inside, you can climb the city wall for panoramic views, visit the Confucian temple, and see the old county government office. Allow at least three hours to wander the lanes and soak in the atmosphere. **⛰️ Hike Luocheng's Karst Hills** The karst hills surrounding Luocheng offer excellent hiking with dramatic limestone peaks and caves. A popular route starts near the Luocheng Bus Station and leads to the summit of Lion Mountain, about a 90-minute climb. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes, as the paths can be slippery after rain. Local guides are available for around 100 yuan and can point out hidden caves and viewpoints. **🛶 Boat Along Wuyang River** The Wuyang River winds through Luocheng and provides a scenic boat ride past rural villages and karst formations. Boats depart from the Wuyang River Pier every hour from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, costing 80 yuan per person for a 50-minute trip. The best light for photography is late afternoon when the cliffs glow golden. Keep an eye out for cormorant fishermen who still practice traditional methods. **🍜 Taste Local Miao Cuisine** Luocheng is part of the Miao and Dong cultural region, so the food is distinct from standard Chinese fare. Try sour fish soup (suantang yu) at the night market on Renmin Road, open from 6:00 PM to midnight, where a bowl costs about 25 yuan. Another specialty is glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves, sold for 5 yuan at street stalls near the ancient town entrance. For a sit-down meal, the Luocheng Flavor Restaurant on Jiefang Street serves hearty Miao hotpot for around 60 yuan per person. **🎎 Join Miao Festivals** If your visit coincides with a Miao festival, you are in for a treat. The Sisters' Meal Festival in April involves colorful rice and courtship rituals, while the Lusheng Festival in November features reed pipe music and dancing. Check with the Luocheng Cultural Center on Wenhua Road for exact dates, as they follow the lunar calendar. During festivals, local villages like Xiajiang and Dazhai welcome visitors for a small fee, usually 30 to 50 yuan. **🛍️ Shop for Handicrafts** The old town's main street is lined with shops selling Miao embroidery, silver jewelry, and batik textiles. Prices are negotiable, but a small embroidered purse starts around 40 yuan, and a silver bracelet can range from 100 to 300 yuan depending on weight. For authentic pieces, visit the Luocheng Ethnic Crafts Cooperative on Zhongshan Street, which works directly with local artisans. Avoid buying from the first stall you see; compare quality and prices at several shops. **🚌 Getting Around Luocheng** Luocheng is compact, and most attractions in the ancient town are within walking distance. For trips to nearby villages or the karst hills, you can hire a taxi or take a minibus from the Luocheng Bus Station; a taxi to Lion Mountain costs about 20 yuan. Bicycles are available for rent at several guesthouses for 30 yuan per day, a great way to explore the countryside. Public buses run every 15 minutes along the main routes, with fares at 2 yuan. **🌙 Evening Riverside Stroll** As the sun sets, the Wuyang River banks come alive with locals and visitors. The riverside promenade, starting near the old bridge, is lit with lanterns and makes for a pleasant walk from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Street performers sometimes play traditional instruments, and you can join in the occasional night market. For a quiet end to the day, find a teahouse overlooking the water and enjoy a cup of local green tea for 15 yuan.
