**🍜 Morning Noodle Rituals** Start your day like a local with a steaming bowl of beef noodles at Chenji Beef Noodle Shop, located at 45 Jiefang Road. A small bowl costs around 10 yuan and comes with tender beef and chewy handmade noodles. They open at 6:00 AM and sell out by 9:30 AM, so arrive early. Another favorite is Wang's Hot Dry Noodles at 12 Hangkong Road, where a bowl with sesame paste and chili oil is just 8 yuan. **🥟 Street Stalls Worth Seeking** The night market on Renmin Road near the old bus station is a goldmine for street food. Look for the stall selling fried dumplings (guotie) for 5 yuan per portion, crispy on the bottom and juicy inside. Another must-try is the stinky tofu cart at the corner of Jiefang Road and Zhongshan Street, open from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Prices range from 3 to 10 yuan per item, so bring small bills. **🍲 Hearty Lunch Spots** For a filling lunch, head to Laohekou Roast Duck Restaurant at 88 Beijing Road, where a half duck with pancakes and sauce costs about 45 yuan. The duck is roasted over fruitwood and served with scallions and cucumber. Another solid choice is the Farmhouse Stew Pot on Xinhua Road, offering a bubbling pot of pork ribs, tofu, and vegetables for 60 yuan, enough for two people. Both places are busiest between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM. **🍢 Evening BBQ and Skewers** When the sun sets, the barbecue stalls along Yanjiang Avenue come alive. Try the lamb skewers at Ah Qiang BBQ, where five skewers cost 15 yuan and are seasoned with cumin and chili. The grilled eggplant with garlic is another highlight at 12 yuan. Most stalls operate from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and you can wash it all down with a cold local beer for 5 yuan. **🥠 Sweet Treats and Snacks** For something sweet, visit the pastry shop at 33 Minzhu Road, known for its red bean paste buns and sesame balls. A bag of six sesame balls costs 10 yuan and they are fried fresh every afternoon from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Another local favorite is tanghulu (candied hawthorn) sold by vendors near the primary school on Wenhua Street, priced at 5 yuan per stick during winter months. **🍚 Local Rice Dishes** Laohekou is proud of its claypot rice, and the best version is at Xiangji Claypot Rice on Tuanjie Road. For 18 yuan, you get rice topped with Chinese sausage, preserved vegetables, and a soft egg, served in a sizzling pot. They open at 11:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM. Another option is the sticky rice with pork floss at the breakfast stall on Gongyuan Road, selling for just 6 yuan from 6:30 AM. **🥤 Drinks and Desserts** To cool down, try the bubble tea shops clustered around the Laohekou Shopping Center on Jiefang Road. A large milk tea with pearls costs 12 to 15 yuan, and most shops open at 10:00 AM. For a traditional option, look for the sour plum drink (suanmeitang) sold at the herbal tea stand on Zhongshan Street for 4 yuan a cup. It is especially refreshing after a spicy meal. **💡 Practical Food Tips** Most street stalls and small restaurants in Laohekou only accept cash or WeChat Pay, so keep small bills handy. Tipping is not expected, and the average meal at a local eatery costs between 10 and 30 yuan per person. The busiest food streets are Renmin Road and Yanjiang Avenue, easily reached by bus lines 1, 5, and 8. Avoid peak hours (12:00 PM to 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM) if you prefer a quieter meal.
