**🍜 Must-Try Local Dishes** Korla is famous for its fragrant lamb dishes and hand-pulled noodles, influenced by both Uyghur and Han Chinese cuisines. Start with a bowl of laghman (hand-pulled noodles with lamb and vegetables), typically priced between 20 and 35 yuan at local eateries. Another staple is samsa, baked lamb-filled pastries sold at street stalls for about 5 yuan each. Don't miss the chance to try roasted whole lamb, a specialty often reserved for celebrations but available at select restaurants. **🍢 Top Street Food Stalls** The night market on Tuanjie Road is the heart of Korla's street food scene, open daily from around 6 PM to midnight. Look for stalls selling chuan'r (lamb skewers) for 3 to 5 yuan per skewer, grilled over charcoal with cumin and chili. Another favorite is the stretch along Renmin East Road, where vendors sell fresh naan and yogurt drinks for under 10 yuan. For a quick bite, try the fried dumplings at the corner of Wenhua Road and Jianshe Road, open from 11 AM to 8 PM. **🍽️ Best Sit-Down Restaurants** For a comfortable meal, head to Korla Restaurant at 12 Renmin Road, known for its lamb pilaf (zhua fan) at around 45 yuan per plate. Another reliable choice is Tianshan Mingzhu Restaurant on Tuanjie Road, which serves a variety of Uyghur dishes like polo and kebabs, with mains ranging from 30 to 60 yuan. If you crave Sichuan flavors, try Shuxiangyuan at 45 Jianshe Road, where spicy hotpot costs about 80 yuan per person. Most restaurants open at 11 AM and close by 10 PM. **🍉 Fruit and Snacks** Korla is renowned for its fragrant pears (Korla pear), available fresh from August to October at markets like the Korla Agricultural Market on Tuanjie Road. A kilogram costs around 15 to 25 yuan depending on the season. Dried fruit stalls also sell raisins, apricots, and walnuts, perfect for snacking. For a sweet treat, try the local honey cake at bakeries along Renmin Road, priced at about 10 yuan per piece. **🕒 When and Where to Eat** Breakfast in Korla typically starts early, with many noodle shops opening by 7 AM and serving until 10 AM. Lunch runs from 1 PM to 3 PM, while dinner is usually from 7 PM to 9 PM. The night market on Tuanjie Road is busiest after 8 PM, so arrive early to snag a seat. Note that during Ramadan, some Uyghur restaurants may have adjusted hours, so it's wise to check ahead. **💰 Budget and Payment Tips** Street food in Korla is very affordable, with most snacks costing between 5 and 15 yuan. A full meal at a mid-range restaurant will set you back 30 to 60 yuan per person. Cash is still widely accepted, but mobile payments via WeChat Pay and Alipay are common. Tipping is not expected, and prices are generally fixed, though you can sometimes negotiate at street stalls. **🚌 Getting Around for Food** Most of Korla's food spots are concentrated in the city center, making it easy to explore on foot or by taxi. A taxi ride within the city typically costs 8 to 15 yuan. Public buses like Route 1 and Route 2 pass by Tuanjie Road and Renmin Road, with fares at 1 yuan. For late-night eats, ride-hailing apps like Didi are available, but surcharges may apply after 10 PM. **🌙 Evening Food Adventures** The evening food scene in Korla comes alive at the Tuanjie Road night market, where you can graze on skewers, grilled fish, and spicy noodles until midnight. Another popular spot is the food street near the Korla Railway Station, open until 2 AM for travelers arriving late. For a sit-down evening meal, try the rooftop restaurant at the Korla Grand Hotel on Renmin Road, which offers panoramic views and a mix of local and international dishes, with mains from 50 to 100 yuan. Remember that many stalls close on rainy days, so plan accordingly.
