**🏯 Explore Jiaji Old Town** Wander the cobblestone lanes of Jiaji Old Town, anchored by the 18th-century Dongyue Temple at 12 Old Street. The temple opens daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with a modest entry fee of 20 yuan. Insider tip: visit on weekday mornings to avoid tour groups and catch locals practicing tai chi in the courtyard. **🚣 Cruise the Jiaji River** The Jiaji River winds through the heart of town, and a 40-minute bamboo raft ride from the South Dock costs 60 yuan per person. Boats depart every 20 minutes between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. For a quieter experience, book the sunset cruise at 5:30 PM, when the water reflects the old town's lanterns. **🍜 Taste Local Street Food** Jiaji's night market on Fuxing Road comes alive at 6:00 PM, offering specialties like stinky tofu (10 yuan) and hand-pulled noodles (15 yuan). Don't miss the grilled river fish at Auntie Li's stall, a local favorite for over 20 years. Come hungry and bring small bills, as most vendors don't accept digital payments. **⛰️ Hike Dragon's Back Mountain** A 30-minute bus ride from Jiaji Bus Station (line 7) takes you to the Dragon's Back Mountain trailhead. The 5-kilometer loop rewards hikers with panoramic views of the river valley and takes about 2.5 hours at a leisurely pace. Start before 9:00 AM to avoid the midday heat and bring at least one liter of water. **🎭 Catch a Shadow Puppet Show** The Jiaji Cultural Center at 45 Renmin Road hosts traditional shadow puppet performances every Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM. Tickets are 40 yuan and can be bought at the door, but arrive 20 minutes early for front-row seats. The shows are in local dialect, but the visual storytelling transcends language. **🛍️ Shop for Local Crafts** The artisan quarter along West Street specializes in hand-woven bamboo baskets and embroidered textiles. Prices range from 30 yuan for small souvenirs to 300 yuan for larger pieces, and haggling is expected but keep it friendly. Most shops open at 10:00 AM and close around 8:00 PM, with a few closing for lunch between 1:00 and 2:00 PM. **☕ Relax at Riverside Cafes** The riverside strip near the North Gate is lined with cozy cafes like Riverbend Coffee (open 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM), where a latte costs around 25 yuan. Grab a window seat for people-watching and free Wi-Fi. In the evening, some cafes host live acoustic music, starting around 8:00 PM. **🚌 Getting Around Jiaji** Jiaji is compact and walkable, but local buses (1 yuan per ride) connect the old town with the train station and outlying attractions. Taxis start at 8 yuan and are plentiful, though drivers rarely speak English. For a scenic alternative, rent a bicycle from Jiaji Bike Rental on Zhongshan Road for 20 yuan per day.
